Smug smiles on profile photos

I’ve been wondering about this. Looking at profile pictures of journalists on newspapers, profile photos on social media etc., there are all these unnatural lopsided smiles.

When / how / why did these unnatural smirks/smiles become a thing? Is it meant to be an attractive look?

And is it me, or do they mostly look smug, sneering , and deliberately put on?

It's just you. They're probably just using their most attractive, and professional photo.

Have you had a bad day?

Susanna85 · 01/04/2020 22:34

Hm. Can't say that's ever bugged me.

Would you prefer more serious poses for photos, or more genuine smiles?

Oh ffs op

On the one hand i hate everything about your op. Smiling is seen as approachable and trustworthy in our society and more attractive. Its built into us we need to smile in photos even if it makes us uncomfortable, anxious or just plain annoyed. Sometimes people just naturally look smug or false when they smile. That being said my dsis has the falsest looking smile in all her photos even selfies and it really makes me laugh. Shes my dsis though so im allowed to laugh and jest her if anyone else did it i would knock their head off. Grin
