noticed that my supermarket hasn't had pint bottles of milk.(can get them elsewhere)
is that to stop people popping for a pint of milk?

I'd guess they're making things more efficient through the supply chain by producing standard containers.

Beer is the only thing that needs to come in pints.

Most people probably want more than a pint at a time, especially when we are trying to reduce the number of times we go to the shops, plus efficiency of supply.

If you don't use much milk, you could buy a bigger carton and freeze some or share with someone you know, or not bother, seeing as you use hardly any milk - eg the people who only have it in for visitors, that they don't have at the moment.

Also seeing as buying 4 pints costs hardly any more than buying 2 x 1 pints, or a 2 pint carton, if you don't use it all, it's not costing you any extra to buy a big carton (obviously we shouldn't waste anything, hence the suggestion of freezing or sharing some).

If you don't mind the taste, skimmed milk lasts way past the use by date. I've drank skimmed milk 5 or 6 days after I should have so buying 2 or 4 pints would lastquite a while.

I find it difficult to carry everything back with large milk (normally get a pint)

BarbaraofSeville · 01/04/2020 08:30

Semi skimmed milk is usually fine for at least a couple of days past the useby date too, as long as your fridge is the correct temperature.

There's also the filtered milks that have much longer dates than standard milk, but I don't know if these are still available.
