I am a single parent trying to hold it all together and failing today, so I’ve made the decision to have a movie afternoon and just pause real life for a bit till I’m not so teary!

Ds is not a fan of films generally, so I need to pull some good ones out the bag to entice him in. Funny if poss so we can have a giggle.

Help?! He recently loved descendants, Harry Potter, goosebumps and cloudy with a chance of meatballs if that helps!

Have you watched Despicable Me? It's very funny. Kung Fu Panda is also very good.

I’m going to write suggestions on bits of paper and get him to pick them out a jar!

Love despicable me! He’s not seen Indiana Jones or men in black either - they are fab suggestion, thank you!

DS is about to turn eight, and loves the Indiana Jones films, the Toy Story films, How to Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me, and Boss Baby was an unexpected hit with him recently. He also has a huge thing for Buster Keaton and Chaplin — I think he likes the pratfalls — and got totally engrossed in Singin’ in the Rain at Christmas.

You could go old school:

The Goonies
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Uncle Buck
Ghostbusters
Labyrinth
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Back to the Future
Gremlins
The Princess Bride
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Adventures in Babysitting
Beetlejuice
