Offensive 'psychiatric hospital' post on Facebook

Has anyone else seen the 'fun' psychiatric hospital post doing the rounds on Facebook?

Please can I ask that people don't share it and if you have shared it (we'll put it down to a momentary lapse of judgement) that you delete it.

Many more people than you imagine have been in psychiatric hospital. Perfectly normal people like you. In fact, people exactly like me.

You would never know I had if you met me.

Plus consider that many, many people are having MH issues at the moment and consider how you think they feel when they see their friends sharing a post like this?

I even saw my friend who currently has depression tagged in one (of course the person posting presumably just imagines no one they know has MH issues Hmm)

The post itself that is doing the rounds is in the comments below...

The offensive and frankly bloody ignorant post...

Some Personal Distancing fun... Make sure you follow the directions at the bottom. You don't pick the names, Facebook does.

I'm in a psychiatric hospital...

My roommate:
Licks the glass:
Helps you escape:
My Psychiatrist:
Asleep in the corner:
shouts at everyone:
Padded room occupant:
Kicks the nurses:
Calls for a unicorn:
Sneaks in the alcohol:

😂🤣🤣

Some Safe distancing fun 🤗

I don't really understand what it's asking people to do, write their friends names?

MrsFionaCharming · 29/03/2020 11:50

That’s been doing the rounds for ages. I hate it.

I guess the reality of tagging however many people with “is tired, bored, a bit woozy due to a new drug regimen, and would like to go home now please”, wouldn’t make for such a fun game. Far more interesting to perpetuate ridiculous stereotypes.

iklboo · 29/03/2020 11:51

I've seen that. Not funny.

willowpatterns · 29/03/2020 11:52

Why have you felt the need to widen its audience and post it on here then?

Hmm Confused

Comps83 · 29/03/2020 11:54

Yeah I was surprised how many ppl I know are sharing this . Even ppl who are mental health advocates usually

Port1aCastis · 29/03/2020 11:55

Report it to Facebook and don't share it on here as it's reaching millions more people unnecessarily, and delete the person who posted it

wheresmymojo · 29/03/2020 12:47

@willowpatterns

It already has a wide audience, I've seen it from at least five people this morning who aren't friends with each other on Facebook.

Plus I have enough faith in people to think they wouldn't read my opening post and then actually copy and paste it.

What I don't get is most people sharing this that I know are usually decent people.

And Facebook isn't doing much with reporting at the moment - you get a notice saying they're down on staff due to the virus and saying there are only three top priority report types they will deal with at the moment and it doesn't fit into those categories.

I've actually replied on each

"I've been in a psychiatric hospital and don't think this is 'fun'.

I didn't lick windows FYI"

I don't care if they think I'm a killjoy TBH.

Unfortunately there are also people in lockdown in psychiatric hospitals with no visitors allowed now for nearly a month. That is a desperate situation to be in.

batvixen123 · 29/03/2020 13:03

I've seen that before. I just unfriend whoever has posted it and move on. Shows some really shitty attitudes.

willowpatterns · 29/03/2020 15:08

The only place I've seen it is on this thread.
