Is it possible to not accept a replacement item in my delivery?

Small problem here. Food delivery today. We ordered 4 tins of vegetarian soup and they are replaced with beef soups. We won't use them, someone else might like them to be available for them when they order, etc., if I put a note on the door will they dig out the soups do you think?

they normally keep substitutions seperatly and you say if they are ok or not.

chocolatespiders · 29/03/2020 09:45

Yes I think they would. You ordered vegetarian not meat.

TheDogsMother · 29/03/2020 09:46

I believe you tell the driver before they bring the bags to your doorstep

Voxx · 29/03/2020 09:48

Which supermarket did you order with? Many have changed the way they deal with unwanted substitutions. Go on to their FAQs and you should find your answer.

MsChatterbox · 29/03/2020 09:50

Won't help but for future reference add a note to item saying please don't sub with meat etc.

dudsville · 29/03/2020 09:51

Thanks, I did look online with them but I didn't see anything. I'll look again. We can't open the door to them and they know we're self isolating so I expect the food will be bagged already, what a pain for them if they were to have to fish them out (alternatives haven't been bagged separately) so I imagine we will probably end up keeping the soups for now, but as I say, I'll check the website again. I hate to add to the waste or limiting access to others.

I told Ocado I didn’t want two substitutions that I genuinely didn’t expect to use. The driver said he couldn’t accept them back but refunded them anyway. As it turns out we’ve had to use them anyway though I understand that wouldn’t be possible in this case.

donkey86 · 29/03/2020 09:51

Don’t know about other shops but Asda aren’t accepting any refusals of substitutes at the door for the time being, but you can go online and mark it as an inappropriate substitution and you’ll get a refund without having to give the cans back.

FixTheBone · 29/03/2020 09:56

morrisons aren't taking substitutions back, however we are both NHS workers and havent been hit financially by this crisis, so its a small hit we can take and still feel very fortunate compared to others.

We've made the decision to add them to what we donate to the local food-bank

DurhamDurham · 29/03/2020 09:58

If you get to keep them you could donate them to a food bank or some neighbours who might be pleased to have them?

dudsville · 29/03/2020 09:58

This is sainsburys, I just found a page that said doorstep deliveries won't accept returns on items. We got chicken soups in the last delivery. We're going to have a lot of soups to donate in future.

You should be able to request a refund for inappropriate substitutions and maybe donate them to a food bank

w00dlander · 29/03/2020 10:02

Sainsbury's will refund if you refuse the subs.

Had to send back several subs yesterday for my friend I'm shopping for with my delivery due to her allergies.

No issues:

salty78 · 29/03/2020 10:09

I'm just happy for anything I can get delivered at the moment tbh

Selfsettling3 · 29/03/2020 10:11

Allergy house here @salty78 excepting inappropriate substitution would make my children ill.

Danni91 · 29/03/2020 10:15

Asda wasn't accepting door returns but refunding online still.
I have 2 bags of hamster & gerbil museli now. I had ordered guinea pig nuggets!
