So what are you eating tonight?

We're having Fragmented beef a la chargrilled peppers in a balsamic reduction which roughly translates as minced beef with slight burnt peppers (smoke detector went off) and some balsamic vinegar glaze (similar flavour can be got from Kleenex if you are less poncy than me) from 2005 that I found at the back of the cupboard from the Jamie Oliver era.

What culinary delights are you serving up in your pop up gourmet kitchen tonight? Grin

The reduction? Well there is less of it....

Ah. We are having poulet, fromage & jambon avec les pommes de terre.

Or chicken, cheese & ham with spuds.

Dd is currently making chickpea tortilla. Unfortunately Tesco did not have any squid ink yesterday. They will be served with poulet leftover re imagined and a sauce tomate.

Raera · 27/03/2020 18:19

Champignon en croute
So Portobello mushrooms which were a bit slimy but smelled ok, bit of cheese on top and wrapped in out of date ready rolled puff pastry
And WINE!!

toomuchfaster · 27/03/2020 18:19

We've had melted fromage and a picant tomato sauce on a circular yeasted base. Or a pizza!

Voxx · 27/03/2020 18:21

We had haricot beans in a tomato jus served on charred bread.

meow1989 · 27/03/2020 18:22

We will be having formed pork with chipped pomme de terre and a tomato reduction. Dh will be having pulses with jus.

Or sausage chips beans and ketchup, like grown ups.

elephantoverthehill · 27/03/2020 18:31

Well the chickpea flour tortillas were shit so Dd is putting on some pasta which Dcs will eat with the sauce tomate. I will have an omelette.

From Db 'Just a heads up, if you get an e-mail from the Department of Health saying not to eat tinned pork because it contains Covid-19 ignore it. It's SPAM.

Charley50 · 27/03/2020 18:39

We are elevating 1 chicken breast with the last bit of coriander, slimey bits scraped off. We have noodles and I found a lone spring onion and some frozen peas. I might do a pea purée, pea twills and pickle a few of the peas, that will elevate the dish beyond all realms of reality.

Charley50 · 27/03/2020 18:40

On and wine as I'm attending a Zoom party tonight 🥳

fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 18:49

@Charley50 your herbed chicken a la orient avec petit pois puree sounds delicious.

We don't have any wine in the house because when 21 year DD was in the shop they refused to believe that she was 18.

pomme de terre avec buerre thinly sliced cured pork with shallow fried hen's egg and seared tomatoes with coupe de fermented jus de pommes

aka hashbrowns bacon and eggs with fried tomatoes and cider

TeacupDrama · 27/03/2020 19:28

the 3 ingredients test

red cabbage blueberries and half a lemon saved from something

PenguinOrHippo · 27/03/2020 19:30

Vegetarian shepherds pie (lots of vegetables needing eating ASAP). DCs hated it, we are all craving meat, but none at home and haven’t been to the shops in 12 days....

fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 19:57

Penguin, do you have any marmite ? That's veggie but adds a nice richness to vegetarian dishes.

OP posts:
PenguinOrHippo · 27/03/2020 20:33

I do have marmite actually, I will try that tomorrow, thank you!

I tried to explain the difficulties with cooking only from food at home to the DC, they were having none of it. Luckily we have Gin

fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 20:53

you only need about 1 tsp.

OP posts:
fiddlethefiddles · 27/03/2020 20:54

...of marmite of course. To suggest 1 tsp of Gin would clearly be quite ridiculous.

Lordfrontpaw · 27/03/2020 20:57

I found some ready made pizza based and some Dorito sauce. Add some cheese and they were rather nice actually.

woodencoffeetable · 27/03/2020 20:57

we had 'breaded' chicken.
no bread or breadcrumbs, so used chrisps instead.

PenguinOrHippo · 28/03/2020 08:36

The gin is badly needed as a drink Grin. I am trying to supervise distance learning for three primary aged children...
