Someone threw a glass jar onto our patio

Went out to bleach the bin (ds had decided it was the best place for some left over prawns [no comment])

Left bin on patio and 20 seconds later heard the sound of exploding glass. There was a glass jar within a foot of where I'd been standing and there is glass all over my patio. Next door is flats and the window on the third floor was wide open (old house so effectively attic flat). Same person has sometimes chucked half used cans of mouldy food down but never glass. I have to assume he's got mental health problems but I'm absolutely furious . Next door is housing association and last time I complained they told me that there was nothing they could do.

I've picked up as much as I can but I dare not let the DCs out tomorrow until we've spent much longer picking it up. Its in the grass, on the patio everywhere.

I admit I lost my temper and yelled up at the window - and perhaps I wasn't very polite.

DP online to police live chat now (doubt they'll care but I want something done - seconds earlier and I could have been hit by it

Talk me down someone please

I'm in tears - its stupid but I'm so stressed with trying to home educate (as we all are), feel like I'm getting no down time and not feeling well anyway and now this

That's terrible! I hope the police can reassure you.

OMG this is awful ! That is just idiotic and if they do have mh issues and are being a danger to other people they should be in hospital or being monitored this could have killed someone ! Glad you are on phone to police ! Have a brandy for your nerves xx

Thank you both. Police have sent it to local team for intelligence and I suspect that's the last we'll hear from them :( I know how busy they are with everything going on at the moment but right now that's not much of a comfort.

We emailed the housing association but they probably won't be bothered.

Furious right now :(

If it had been slightly different end to the story and not so lucky the police would be making it a massive priority so hopefully they will just to make sure it won't happen again even being busy with what's happening! Keep pushing on to the housing association also I think it's v serious not just a crisp packet or littering like a weapon ! X hope you get some sleep after all x

I know you shouldn't have to do this but if the person who does this has problems and isn't likely to stop anytime soon, can you put some temporary netting up over your garden so if the idiot throws anything else, it'll be caught and not shatter or hit someone.

JackiFazaki · 26/03/2020 23:51

That's horrible, someone could have been badly hurt. I really do hope that the police follow this up. Being mentally unwell does not mean it's ok to throw glass jars and put others in danger.

I can imagine that really shook you up.

I had that at a place but it wasn't malicious, lady was in her 80s and knocked a glass ornament off her ledge. Smashed on step to garden then went all over the grass, I had to spend quite a long time sifting through the grass to get the tiny shards out.

Hope you get some resolution to it Flowers

That’s awful. I would go back to the housing association. This anti social behaviour and there is something they can do - they can at least speak to their tenant.
