Do I need to tax my car?

Hi Ladies, hope you are all ok. Question - my car tax runs out at the end of the month, do I need to renew if it's just sitting on the drive gathering dust?! My husband has a car we can use for shopping so wondered if there is an option to pause it whilst we are all housebound? x

You need to SORN it if you're not going to tax it

You have to do a SORN declaration, to advise the dvla that it won’t be on the road.

You can SORN it - look on the DVLA website. Then it doesn't need to be taxed. Don't forget to tax it before using it again.

However, if you did this on, say, 30th April, it would backdate to 1st of April and not save you any money, so careful when you tax it again.
