Will not washing my hair for weeks help it?

I have an issue with greasy hair / skin (I still get spots etc - every day I have numerous spots).
I’m now WFH with two under 5 and I can’t be bothered washing my hair - not great MH atm. I usually wash my hair every other day & straighten / keep it down for work as well as minimal makeup.
Will not washing my hair as often help it or is this a myth? I am showering btw!
It’s been a week I think now since I’ve washed it.

It didn’t work when I tried it a few years ago. Other people swear by it though!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 24/03/2020 21:41

I did it a few years ago, also switched to kids 2 in1 shampoo/conditioner the herbal essences cherry and almond one (smells like bake well tart mmmm) but any of them will do.

I went from washing my hair everyday to twice a week and my hair is in much better condition. Less greasy at the roots and less flat.

Join a group or page specifically to help. There is a Facebook one, 'no poo (no shampoo) and low poo hair care group forum'.

I read their files and posts, and no longer use shampoo. My hair seems happy and healthy. I wash about every two weeks, either with water or henna.

It's not about simply stopping- you need to stay clean and there are things you can use to help.

I’d like to try this too. I’m sick of washing my hair every day so might take this chance to drop to every other day and see if it gets less greasy. Following this for any tips of anyone has any.

Don’t stop but do it less frequently eg once a week

My hair is naturally wavy so naturally drier, and heavily highlighted so a bit damaged. Washing it everyday weighs my hair down, makes it look limp, frizzy and dull. Also my colour fades faster.

Washing it 2-3 times a week (almost every other day) is best for me

I didn’t wash my hair much when I was sat at home before maternity leave started. I only washed it once a week which really helped. Go for it!

Hercwasonaroll · 24/03/2020 21:55

Definitely give it a go. Now is the perfect time. I've gone from "must wash daily" to washing 2x per week. Dry hair shampoo on the last couple of days at the roots. During isolation I'm going to leave it 5 days and see what happens. Perfect time to do it really!

MrsT1405 · 24/03/2020 22:03

Whilst in lockdown, I'm giving this a go . Gone to every 4 days so far. I'm not wearing make up either but lots of moisturiser and lash serum. I am showering every day but keep my hair dry!

TypicalMeBreakMyTypicalRules · 24/03/2020 22:07

I've managed to get down to washing my hair every 4 to 5 days. Can recommend Smile

StealthNinjaMum · 24/03/2020 22:10

I’m a Curly Girl Method user so I don’t use shampoo to wash my hair, I use conditioner. It has never been so soft and non greasy. I ‘wash’ it maybe once every four or five days.

Just give it a go! I've tried less frequent washing over the years, and it hasn't worked for me. Only time my hair has been less greasy is when I've had miscarriages/given birth.

My hair falls out. Lots of it over 2 years. No reason apart from age perhaps (late 60s). When I retired I chilled out a bit with blow dries and colouring but it still fell out. Now I'm stuck indoors I don't dry it at all and only wash it once a week - it's a bit frizzy (some cream-to-oil sorts that out) but not at all dirty. I used to 'blonde' the grey roots but now use a Josh Wood coloured conditioner. My hair looks OK (but I wouldn't go to work like this!) and I don't think it's shedding quite as much 🤞🤞🤞. While we're stuck at home it's a good time to experiment with hair - what's the worse that can happen?

Hi op. I have diagnosed OCD and before I was diagnosed and given medication I was washing my hair once a day at best and twice a day at worst. It is dark, thick and quite long and my floors would be covered in it after blow drying.

Fast forward a couple of years- i now wash my hair once a week and do it like the hairdressers do- lather, rinse, repeat and then conditioner on the ends.
I’ve found that a good wash twice gets it squeaky clean, i dry it and straighten it and it stays lovely all week.

Disclaimer- I do have a fringe so wash that every single day using the sink. Religiously.

Maybe start by cutting down at first. My hair is at its best on days 2/3/4 and still “feels” clean. I have a shower every day still.
