My face is so fat, anyone know anything about fitness?

Basically I'm clueless about what I need to do.

I'm 5ft 4 and 8 stone. My cheeks have recently got massive, I don't even look like me anymore.

I'm looking to get fit to see if it helps any, but I don't know where to start. I don't really need lose weight anywhere else, so I don't think I need to focus much on cardio? Does lifting weights to build muscle burn overall fat? I know you can't spot reduce, but I'm wondering if getting toned may help to burn the stubborn cheek fat?

It's either that or buccal fat removal, which I really don't want to have to do, but I'm getting so down about this...

Appreciate any insight :)

There is absolutely nothing you can do to lost weight in just your face. You're not making any sense.

Go get your teeth checked or something.

ArthurDentsSpaceTowel · 24/03/2020 20:04

At your height and weight you should not even be dreaming of losing weight. I'm wondering if you are (a) very young (b) have a history of eating disorders or body image problems?

If your face definitely has changed shape (and our perceptions can play weird tricks on us) you may need to check if you have a low level infection causing your glands to swell.

bluebell34567 · 24/03/2020 20:11

are you taking any medication? some meds cause face swelling.
also, there are some face massage things that you can buy and use if the cause is different.

Well, I know, I literally said right there 'I know I can't spot reduce.' I don't know what's not making sense? I'm asking if building some muscle (because I don't have any muscle tone at all) would help in burning the cheek fat.

Go get your teeth checked or something.

What the fuck does that even mean? Rude for no reason. This is Chat, not AIBU.

I think that poster means you could have an infection in your gums that could cause swelling. My DP had an abscess once and his face was very swollen on one side.

I know, I absolutely DON'T want to lose weight anywhere else, that's why I posted, because I'm stuck and genuinely don't know the best way to approach getting fit. (Fit as in strong, not losing weight). No body image issues I assure you, my face genuinely has doubled in size in the last 6 months.

What I was trying to ask was, would gaining muscle overall help burn the fat in my face.

That's interesting about the glands, thank you.

Have you tried facial massage OP? It could help to tone the skin

Youcunnyfunt · 24/03/2020 20:36

Get your thyroid checked when you can

Foggymist · 24/03/2020 20:41

You don't just develop fat in your face and nowhere else, and exercise definitely wouldn't help it Confused It sounds like swelling or inflammation, definitely go get checked by your gp (previous poster was not that far off the mark with dentist suggestion).

Ginkypig · 24/03/2020 20:49

If it's new It could be fluid from a variety of different things like medications or too much salt or alcohol in the diet to a medical issue or a dental issue.

Or a reaction to e product or makeup possibly.

It's unlikely that one day you just woke up and your face was fat but everywhere else wasn't is what I mean.

DartmoorChef · 24/03/2020 20:51

How old are you? Are your wisdom teeth through?

Clavinova · 24/03/2020 20:56

How much alcohol do you drink?

FuturePerfect · 24/03/2020 20:58

A puffy, swollen face can be a sign of a thyroid issue.

concernedforthefuture · 24/03/2020 21:01

If it really is at noticeable as you say it is, it could be worth seeing a Dr to have your hormone levels checked. Something similar happened to a friend and it turned out she had Cushings disease.

gamerchick · 24/03/2020 21:23

Good call. That is something that changes the shape of the face.

I wasnt trying to be rude OP, this blatantly isn't a weight thing. You need to look at other avenues.

PennyNotSoWise · 24/03/2020 22:17

@gamerchick

I misinterpreted the tone of your post, I'm truly sorry for snapping at you.

It's fine, I can see why you did. I'm the one who should apologise.

It's a shit time to say see your GP I know. But at 8 stone and your height, just cross off weight problems. There might be something else going on.

Mixingitall · 24/03/2020 22:24

Dairy often swells my face, if I have a latte and forget I’ve made porridge with milk it’s enough to cause swelling. I may did slim fast once and my face looked huge, despite losing weight.

PennyNotSoWise · 24/03/2020 22:38

How old are you? Are your wisdom teeth through?

27, and the top ones are through but the bottom ones are struggling. I get pain from them every 6 months or so, along with a sore throat and painful tongue. My Dentist doesn't seem too concerned so I assumed it was normal Confused

Or a reaction to e product or makeup possibly.

I do wear makeup daily, wouldn't hurt to knock it on the head for a bit and see if there's a difference, thank you.

How much alcohol do you drink?

Teetotal. I can't even handle a WKD so I don't bother with alcohol Grin

I have actually had my thyroid checked, for severe hair thinning, and GP told me it was fine, but I do have a lot of other symptoms that seem to point to something up with it Confused Worth digging deeper maybe? (obviously not right now)
