Sainsbury’s need proof of my mother’s age/vulnerability

I’ve managed to sign up my mother’s address to Sainsbury’s home grocery delivery and I’ve worked out the secret to finding an available delivery slot. Now they want me to call to provide proof of age/vulnerability. I’ve called today to get an engaged tone or a recorded message. When I eventually get through what proof do I provide? Does anyone know? Obviously I know her date of birth............surely they don’t ask for more? Passport number?! NI number?! These things are none of their business. Do they just judge whether I sound genuinely like the daughter of an 80 year old?
She’s just texted to say she’s just had a Zoom lesson so is all set for yoga by Zoom later in the week. I don’t think she’s as tech-ignorant as she makes out! I’m just the donkey dealing with groceries.

Did she get the text yesterday putting her in the vulnerable category? Copy of that? I've screen-shotted my husband's.

Windyatthebeach · 24/03/2020 15:43

Likely they will want sworn statements from both her dps...

I've had this with my mum this morning. She rang up and they were able to verify her age from her address and nectar card number. When she got through they were very helpful

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 24/03/2020 15:47

We registered for the vulnerable group last week and were assured it would be active from yesterday. Nope. Can’t get in touch with anyone to let them know we qualify.

FadedRed · 24/03/2020 15:50

Has she got a local authority bus pass or ‘gold card’? Our local council issues the older people with a ‘gold card’ that works as a bus pass/library card/%discount for some businesses and shops. Has a photo of the holder. That would be proof of age.

Having a similar issue with my older sister. She lives in sheltered housing, is wheelchair bound and has twice daily visits from her carers. She is panicing because she hadn't got much in and can't get through to Sainsbury to register or get an in-line shopping slot.

Thanks Shell

If Ocado doesn’t answer my emails soon, I shall give up on them, and try Sainsbury

I was planning to use image of the Shield Letter as evidence of exceptional vulnerability

Whalette · 24/03/2020 17:10

I think Sainsbury's are only offering this to existing customers. I sent them a photo of a letter from GP.

Graphista · 24/03/2020 17:39

I’ve been trying to get through to them for several days without success for this exact reason.

No idea what proof they’re wanting but I’m fed up not being able to get through.

I’ve been a loyal and regular customer for years and frankly now feels they don’t care.

MutteringDarkly · 24/03/2020 17:45

Also been trying to get through to register my mum for 2 days. Hours and hours of trying. Driving me bananas.

Surely an online form would have been simpler? Their staff could then work through those offline?

Crunchymum · 24/03/2020 19:19

@Whalette

What email address did you use?

Whalette · 24/03/2020 19:43

@Crunchymum I replied to the CEO email and also sent it through Facebook messenger

Crunchymum · 24/03/2020 19:53

I'm a weekly customer and I didn't get any CEO emails.

Got them from Asda (signed up and never used) and Tesco (used once and never again).... its not in my junk folder either.

We use Sainsburys at work and I saw the email come in there.

Where is my email Grin

scissy · 24/03/2020 20:48

I've given up on Sainsbury's and cancelled my delivery pass. I have one because I am disabled and unable to drive. However since COVID-19 DP has been home rather than working away so we've been able to cope so far. I still can't register as a disabled customer with them though for similar reasons as other ppl.
