So would now be a good time to try The Mumsnet Haircut?

I mean, if it goes horribly wrong, no-one's going to see it. I can wear a woolly hat when I go out (once a day).

Has anyone done it? Are the instructions still up somewhere?

linky to one of many threads

But if it goes really wrong, there will be no one there to fix it. 😳

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2020 00:01

I predicted it's return on a thread a few days ago.

It doesn't matter if it goes wrong, who is going to see it?

I'm tempted to have a go!

n00bMaster69 · 24/03/2020 00:05

I did it a once, ended up with an awful Jem and the Holograms mullet.

Don't do it. Don't be stupid like I was.

Frankly I think this is one of the more sensible posts on this issue.

Why not try it? As you say it's not like you are going anywhere/seeing anyone.

Though I'd look at a fair few videos first as from memory you need to follow the instructions very carefully.

The biggest issue is getting the bobble too near your forehead and ending up with a micro fringe. That you can't hide...anything else you can cover with a pony tail.

Lellochip · 24/03/2020 00:10

Whenever I've tried it it worked great... Until it didn't Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2020 00:14

Oh g'wan - and then everyone post photos to cheer up the rest of us.

Yogawoogie · 24/03/2020 00:17

It will grow out before long Wink

RosieSunset · 24/03/2020 01:20

First time it did it it looked great.

Second time, not so much.

There won’t be a third time.

Coldhandscoldheart · 24/03/2020 06:15

First time I did it I looked a bit like I belonged in status quo. Second time I watched more videos and chopped into it much more and it looked better.

InTheBlinkOfAnEye · 24/03/2020 07:56

My DH bought some rechargeable clippers. I had a go, but was a bit scared so didn’t really take much off.
So, he took matters into his own hands......... there are only 3 bald patches and he’s quite pleased with himself 😀

InTheBlinkOfAnEye · 24/03/2020 07:57

His own hair I hasten to add - not mine!

ThinkWittyThoughts · 24/03/2020 08:52

Ooh this is tempting.

LargeGinOnTap · 24/03/2020 09:47

crapette · 24/03/2020 10:23

Warning - this is an entirely lighthearted response:

Your hair has grown so much in 12 hours that you need to cut it?
Are you Tressy?
Look for a button in your back. Grin

mondaypolomint · 24/03/2020 10:43

I keep taking bits off my fringe.
I saw this on Facebook and it brought back memories

spiderlight · 24/03/2020 10:54

I've been eyeing up my DS, who is long overdue a barber's visit, and wondering whether to have a go with the dog clippers. I've done his fringe already and it's not awful, but he might draw the line at me attempting a #4 round the back and sides!

Addler · 24/03/2020 11:11

I've been sitting around snipping off individual split ends with my hair scissors. There's so many! Shock

picklemewalnuts · 24/03/2020 11:17

I've been doing this for years. I ring the changes by putting the band in different places. Sometimes I do a fringe as well- same technique but at the front, like a unicorn.

Take it easy at first.

I've even had complements.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 24/03/2020 17:25

So, a mixed response!

@Lellochip Do you know what you did wrong? At first I thought you'd tied bits of red cotton into your hair Grin

Dog clippers Shock

I'm tempted but nervous, will see if I can psych myself up. Will definitely not do a fringe.

ADreamOfGood · 24/03/2020 17:30

I've done it before (about ten years ago) and it was fine... but I'm not the erm most-groomed person around Grin
It was better than leaving it stupidly long at a time that I really couldn't get to a hairdresser.
I was thinking that now is the time to dye hair blue or whatever crazy things you've always wanted to try but can't because you work in a solicitor's or whatever.

swampytiggaa · 24/03/2020 17:34

Husband did mine with the clippers earlier 🙂 very happy 🙂
