Gatherings of no more than 2 people...doesn't make sense//does it?

shadypines · 23/03/2020 22:43

From outside your own household you can still potentially 'gather' with one other person. I can go out and meet person a) later on meet person b) and later on down the road person c). Thereby sending the virus on it's way to who knows how many other people? Yes I know we should be at least 2 metres apart but unless you've got a measure stick with you people aren't going to observe this.

Is there something I'm missing cos it's not making sense as a proper lockdown.

By the way, I don't want to do this 'gathering' with anyone, been out there for my daily exercise trying to avoid people all weekend and other people are just not taking any notice. Just trying to make sense of it.

Scruffyoak · 23/03/2020 22:46

I thought the same.

Canadianpancake · 23/03/2020 22:47

You're just being pedantic. Don't meet up with anyone. End of.

firesong · 23/03/2020 22:47

Thought the two people are meant to be from the same household!

ffswhatnext · 23/03/2020 22:47

I think that they are hoping common sense might play a part.
They couldn't say one person because they know people live with someone. They would rightfully question that, as you cannot send your toddler out alone.

If we are socially distancing, does it matter if it's 2 or 20 feet? Walk on by and have a chat on the phone instead.

Woodlandtrain · 23/03/2020 22:48

Is it just so police can legitimately approach any groups of people?

Bluntness100 · 23/03/2020 22:49

It’s so the police can break anything up with more than two people.

It’s relying on people not being twats and socialising with others like it’s a relay race.

Oh thanks, glad it's not just me cos I was listening my hardest to Boris but thinking this was a bit contradictory...we could potentially meet 100 people or more a day as long as it's 2 at a time....Confused. Judging by what's been going on in parks and beaches some people are just not going to get it...

Pinkpeone1 · 23/03/2020 22:52

Oh for heaven sake .... just stay away from people.for the next 3 weeks. Its important

Opendraw · 23/03/2020 22:55

I think they said same
Household did they not ?

Opendraw · 23/03/2020 22:56

Next thing will be curfew as folk still go to their pals house. This was announced this evening in Cyprus not going out at all after 6pm unless an emergency
Or essential work thing

shadypines · 23/03/2020 22:56

Dryeyes..are you serious? I thought I was asking a sensible and serious question, do you think our NHS staff would want us to meet up with ANYONE outside our own household at the moment. ??

I give up on here, such a nasty viper pit it's unbelieveable.

chatterbugmegastar · 23/03/2020 22:58

No we couldn't met 100 people because we will be at home or 2 metres away from anyone we might meet when exercising

shadypines · 23/03/2020 22:59

Pinkpeone...I AM!!!! I was asking on behalf of everyone , did the advice seem clear, I understand it !

OP posts:
wildthingsinthenight · 23/03/2020 22:59

It's 2 people from the same household.

ffswhatnext · 23/03/2020 23:01

Most people understand that if we go out for a walk, and someone comes towards you wanting a natter. You run the fuck away like you would if someone had the plague.

Those that want to stand around and have a gossip, well, I'm sure they will understand what socially distancing is made. Even if this means they get locked in a room, and shown endless videos until they finally understand.

iVampire · 23/03/2020 23:02

I suppose it’s so that people who are dating still get a chance to go and be briefly insanitary together

And it might mean that police might actually act against at least the most notorious open air hook up sites

shadypines · 23/03/2020 23:03

The fact that some of you have not read my thread/posts properly before jumping on me is a case in point. People don't listen properly. I am giving up at least point. Thanks to anyone posting reasonable replies.

People don't listen properly
Ironic really...

SuperFurryDoggy · 23/03/2020 23:06

I agree @shadypines, I think it should have been simply “don’t meet up with people from outside your home”

@DesdemonaDryEyes I think you misread the OP’s posts. She was questioning why BJ said no gatherings of more than 2 people, when no meeting up at all would be far safer.

user1493494961 · 23/03/2020 23:07

You're not meant to be meeting person A then B then C. You can go out once a day for exercise with another person from the same household but still maintaining social distancing rules.

user1353245678533567 · 23/03/2020 23:08

To make sure people are staying at home and apart from each other, the Government is also stopping all public gatherings of more than two people.

There are only two exceptions to this rule:

● where the gathering is of a group of people who live together - this means that a parent can, for example, take their children to the shops if there is no option to leave them at home.

● where the gathering is essential for work purposes - but workers should be trying to minimise all meetings and other gatherings in the workplace.

In addition, the Government is stopping social events, including weddings, baptisms and other religious ceremonies. This will exclude funerals, which can be attended by immediate family.

I don't know if this is the reason, but if they'd said no "gatherings" at all except people who live together then all the people who live alone probably would have freaked out at being banned from human contact indefinitely. Effectively they have said that but it sounds less horrific this way.

SuperFurryDoggy · 23/03/2020 23:10

That’s a good point @user1353245678533567, I hadn’t considered that

user1353245678533567 · 23/03/2020 23:10

It's 2 people from the same household

No, it's not.
