I have finally put up my new washing line but it doesn't work

It's one of those ones that winds back into itself for storage.

Every time I put something on it, it brings it down to ground level & extends further .

Any ideas how I get it to lock so it doesn't extend further?

Is our actually extending of of the box or just dropping with the weight of the washing?

If there something on the box to lock it?

Does it have a knobbly but you can wind the cable round to lock it?

It's dropping with the weight of the washing. I can't see anything to stop it but will go back for another look.

Very annoying - it's one of those little jobs I can now get to doing & it doesn't work like I thought it would
