How long is ok to have diarrhoea for (stomach bug)

We’ve got a stomach bug going through the family. It’s my turn with it. It started on Friday lunch time. I’m having several episodes of diarrhoea a day (it’s the consistency of water). I’m drinking lots and resting as much as I can but I thought it would have started to slow down by now. There’s nothing I can do though is there? Just wait for it to run it’s course? When should I start to worry? No other symptoms, just nausea on day one but I’ve got an ok appetite now.

Oh poor you. Do you have any immodium in the first aid box? My brother recently had a bout of diarrhoea, he had to have blood tests in the end as it lasted for over 7 days. He had a strain called campylobactor, which we believe he got from chicken. He also came off his antidepressants cold turkey when he became ill and a side effect of that was the runs too, which made the daft sod twice as bad. He ate little bits of scrambled eggs, rice, cuppa soup and porridge but couldn't really bring himself to eat much. I hope you're OK it's a horrible time anyway but an even worse one when your sick and can't get to a chemist's or a doctors due to the coronavirus. You can get diarrhoea medication in our corner shop and little supermarkets if you can ask someone to go safely for you. Also my brother was recommended dioralite, which is a sachet you dissolve in water and it replaces all your lost minerals (in bygone days they were ace for a hangover). A bit of an old wives tale for you too but drinking flat diet coke is supposed to bung you up in desperate times. Get well soon and try not to panic. Flowers

Thankyou for your reply. I’m reluctant to take Imodium I’ve heard it can trap the bacteria in your gut (although that may be an old wives tale). I’ll ask DH to see if he can get diorylyte today for me. I’m really thirsty this morning.

It’s the absolute last thing I need right now. I’ve got all the kids at home, a dog that needs walking. DH works 12 hour shifts. I don’t know how I’ll get through the day.

I feel like I’ve maybe turned the corner today. No diarrhoea yet and my stomach doesn’t feel like a washing machine. It’s been such a challenging week. Homeschooling and the house have gone to pot. I’ve just managed to feed everyone and walk the dog (whilst wearing 2 pairs of pants and a massive sanitary towel!) it’s been grim.

None of it’s been helped by the arse holes that I considered friends with their texts of homeschooling around the kitchen table, bike rides in the countryside, art, baking bla bla bla. How I’ve restrained myself from telling them all to go fuck them selves is anyone’s guess!!

Thanks so much for asking (I bet you wished you hadn’t 😄)

I'm glad I asked and I'm glad you're feeling a bit better bottomwise. You're doing better than me, I've done a bit of homework every morning with my 6 yo. He doesn't give a rats chuff, we aren't doing macrami or scooping avacados out for a "cheap, quick healthy" guacamole. You keep going, doing whatever you can to get you self feeling a bit more like. You're bloody poorly and have had the shit (literally) ripped out of you. So long as the kids are OK and fed a few days playing xbox or watching YouTube won't hurt. It takes weeks to get over something like this so please take care and don't beat yourself up for not being super mum. all the self applauding mums I know only ever post on Facebook about how great they are as a mum... Because they are generally speaking self obsessed, idiots. Take good care of yourself.
