How best to organise care packages donated by pubs and restaurants?

Two local pubs which are closing, are asking their staff to distribute the food they have to local needy people. The pubs are closing this weekend but nobody has the storage for it or any means of distributing it. The food is mostly perishable so will need to get to the community quickly.

Does any one have any ideas, how this food can reach the needy. If you have schemes in your area please could you share them

Use the olio app, the next door app, or look on Facebook for your local covid 19 mutual aid society.

Get in touch with the local council- parish/town/county.

Contact the local foodbank and homeless shelters.

Sirzy · 20/03/2020 16:54

Contact the nearest food bank?

florentina1 · 20/03/2020 17:19

Does the food bank take perishable goods?

Care homes may have the kitchen facilities to take it.

Gazelda · 20/03/2020 18:48

Definitely care homes or parish council.

britnay · 20/03/2020 18:48

do you have any local free fridges?
We have two locally which take short dated food from local bakers/cafes/restaurants/shops and allow anyone to take from them just asking for a donation if people can give.

HappyHammy · 20/03/2020 18:58

Donate it to the local hospital staff. They are desperate and cant always get to the shops.

florentina1 · 20/03/2020 21:29

Logistically it cant go to hospitals.

Whereabouts are you based

CMOTDibbler · 20/03/2020 21:32

Locally, the charity that takes unwanted food to cook for the homeless, and a similar scheme which provides meals for families (both have chill vans etc) have said they can do this. Perhaps google zero waste schemes?

Bases in Fobbing Essex. We are waiting for neighbourhood watch to get back to us, as they are circulating leaflets asking us to watch out for elderly neighbours. It has to be distributed really quickly once it leaves the Pubs’ fridges.

Forgot to say, thank you for the suggestions so far. I have passed them on to the people concerned.

Schools!!!!!

Food banks, local police stations, council run care homes.

florentina1 · 21/03/2020 16:30

We have found a church who will distribute it. The food bank can’t take it because it is refrigerated food.
