Thinking about getting a treadmill! Thought of renting one first but the cost of buying one seems similarly (£300-400). If you have one can I ask: was it expensive? Is it noisy? Can you have it on the first floor? (Id like it in my bedroom but we have floorboards and am worried about noise. Also how will I know if it’s too heavy???)

Thanks so much!!!

We have one, we bought the cheapest 'proper' one (rather than manual one) at decathlon, think it was £299. They are heavy, not sure about your first floor (I suppose the combined weight would need to be calculated- you + treadmill plus factor in the effect of running)
We love it though, and currently thinking its an absolute blessing as we may be kept indoors. We both now run outside mostly but do use Tm every few weeks or so, plus I use it as part of a hiit workout as well.

The only thing I'd consider paying more for would be a built in speaker/headphone as they are quite loud and iPhone headphones limit volume so can't hear podcasts while running!

We bought one off eBay several years ago and it look 3 adults to get it upstairs to our bedroom. That's how heavy it is (150kg + so the weight of two adults).

We had a brand new floor fitted (inc joists) when we built this house but it would be too noisy for the person in the room beneath it when it's in use.

I haven't used it as much since i joined a gym 2 years ago but now classes have been cancelled i might dust it off again. Our has a incline so I used to walk uphill and watch TV at the same time.

Sounds like we have the same one, a Domyos model. It’s definitely worth spending the right money on a ‘good’ one. We looked at cheaper ones where possible and they were noisy and weak in construction.

Ours sits on a tiled concrete floor and is very quiet because of that. I guess upstairs in a semi-detached might annoy the neighbours?

Mine was about £900, really heavy and takes up a lot of room. Can't imagine getting it upstairs. On ground floor but we do have a cellar. Only I use it so don't know what the noise is like under it when in use.

I do love it though.

I had a foldable one. Ground floor and it isn't quiet.

Do you run generally?

HelpIHaveNothingToWear · 19/03/2020 17:09

Yes love running outside. Just desperate to keep going with three small children over the next few months

I find the transition to tread mill quite hard after running outside. And boring!

I've had a Profitness one from Argos for about 5 years now. It was about £250 so quite cheap. Max speed only 15Km/h. I have it up in my 1st floor spare room which has floorboards but I have a shock absorber mat under it. Not sure the mat makes much difference though.
I listen to Radio 2 while I run and have to turn the volume up a bit but not ridiculously loud.
My NDN says she can hear me thumping along but she can't hear the machine running itself or my radio.
I try to run 30 mins at a time in the morning 8am and then again at 4.30pm when I finish work. Trying to keep any antisocial noise within reasonable hours.
If you go for it OP then make sure you set up in front of a window where you can get fresh air in as you run as it can get V hot without fresh air resistance.
Good Luck.

If anyone is interested I'd also recommend one of the running apps where you can run through somewhere interesting! I've got one called treadmill trails - but others are available! It's made my running much more interesting!
