How many inches could you cut off your hair before your OH noticed

I had a fairly drastic haircut on Thursday. I've gone from nipple length hair to a cut just slightly longer than my chin. I've possibly lost around 6 inches.

I'm really pleased with it and I've been swooshing it around quite a bit.

DH doesn't appear to have noticed so far...

I’ve had a similar amount cut off before and the only person who noticed was one of the staff at my children’s after school. Not family or my colleagues. Even when I pointed it out they all looked baffled

DropZoneOne · 14/03/2020 21:20

My hair is bra-strap length. I reckon it would need to be shoulder length before DH would notice.

On the other hand, my hair is curly. As soon as i straighten it (not that often), he looks at me quizzically trying to work out what's different.

Hiphopopotamus · 14/03/2020 21:24

Only a couple of inches - my DH loves my hair long so I get suspicious looks every time I go to the hairdresser for a trim! Grin

(Disclaimer - not an abusive controlling relationship, just a husband with a preference and a wife happy to indulge it!)

AccountAntsy · 14/03/2020 21:25

Probably loads! I’ve also had Botox before and he didn’t notice that either Hmm

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 14/03/2020 21:27

It's only colour changes that my dh notices. I went from shoulder length to chin length with an undercut. He literally didn't notice the cut, but noticed I'd gone from faded red to white blonde 🙄

My dad on the other hand noticed when my mum had her hair cut, he looked at her and said "I don't like that it's too short" good thing she doesn't put too much on his opinion of her hair cuts 😂

nachthexe · 14/03/2020 21:28

My mum had hair she could sit on when she got married. She cut it all off (think above chin length) six weeks after the wedding. Dad didn’t notice until she completely lost her shit after two days and demanded he try and figure out if anything was different.

newbingepisodes · 14/03/2020 21:29

My hair is to the middle of my back, very long and straight. Think I could shave my head and DH wouldn't notice!

YouJustDoYou · 14/03/2020 21:31

Literally going bald might be enough to get him to notice. My little dear 6 year son however notices if I cut off even an inch, and his kind words about how lovely my new hair cut looks is more than enough of a nice and welcome surprise to me. Dh never noticed when I make an effort for him.

RoomR0613 · 14/03/2020 21:31

I'm 99% certain he would say if he didn't like it, so it must be acceptable but he just hasn't noticed.

He gets a bit miffed if I don't congratulate him on his weekly shave. I'm waiting until then to point it out to him if he doesn't notice before then Grin

All of it , from waist length to full on bald shiny head and even then he'd probably say "have you changed something... can't quite put my finger on what?"

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2020 21:33

Around 10? Mine is down the middle of my back and I think he’d notice once it was shoulder length.
I’m the same though, always notice when boys in my class have their hair cut, never when girls have a couple of inches chopped. It’s a less significant percentage of their hair and is therefore less noticeable!

thereisfreedomwithin · 14/03/2020 21:34

:) this has cheered me up

tabulahrasa · 14/03/2020 21:43

Well I had 5 or 6 inches off last time... and turquoise put through it, he was adamant it looked the same...

The best one was about a foot, it was halfway between my bra strap and my waist, I got it cut to my jawline... didn’t notice.

RoomR0613 · 14/03/2020 21:45

Everyone with partners who don't notice, do you think they would expect you to notice the other way round?

Theweasleytwins · 14/03/2020 21:47

6" then I had to point it out to him🙄he is an arse

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 14/03/2020 21:49

I just asked, he said nope, wouldn't expect it.
They only time he would care if I didn't notice if he took his entire beard off, will never happen 😂

Meetmeinfantasyland · 14/03/2020 21:50

I had really long blonde hair, went to the hairdresser and came back with shoulder length dark brown hair. Didn't notice! My fil did though and even pointed out to my husband, who still looked slightly baffled.

tabulahrasa · 14/03/2020 21:51

“do you think they would expect you to notice the other way round?”

He does... he has short hair, it literally just looks like he’s brushed it a bit more when he gets it cut and he gets annoyed if I don’t tell him I’ve noticed.

Meanwhile, I’m just walking round being invisible Hmm lol

JellyfishandShells · 14/03/2020 21:53

‘What do you think ? ‘

‘Oh, nice ! You’ve had quite a lot cut off, haven’t you ? But it suits you ‘

Not a millimetre had been snipped. I was showing him my new, and very different, glasses.

DustyMaiden · 14/03/2020 21:53

I had my hair cut, coloured and curled yesterday, he didn’t notice.

KTyoupigeon · 14/03/2020 21:54

I had long hair that I could almost sit on and had it cut to a shoulder length bob and my OH didn’t notice for around 3-4 days! His excuse was I wore it up most of the time and we did have a new born baby so maybe sleep deprivation! It was over 20 years ago and I didn’t know about the little Princess trust so my hair went in the bin sadly

LuckyLickitung · 14/03/2020 21:58

I've gone from bra strap to shoulder length and I managed a few days until I could no longer resist pointing it out.
One month later on returning to work, my colleague could still see a stark contrast. It had recovered another inch since then!

A couple of inches i reckon, but mine is just past my shoulders. Tbf i am rubbish at noticing when people get their hair done.

Witchend · 14/03/2020 23:17

I once had about 12-14 inches off. About 3 or 4 days later dh said "Something's different... oh, did you have your hair cut a little?"

I didn't marry him for his observation skills, but it is actually great because I can get away with things like putting 2 new 6 foot bookcases in the living room, and after 3-4 weeks when he notices I can say "oh no, we've had them ages" and he just shrugs and believes me. Grin
