Could this be a fracture/break? (Photo)

DD hit her elbow on the door frame last night. It's still very sore this morning and has a bump but no obvious bruise. She can't straighten it. I'm assuming it's not fractured as there is no bruise, but could it be?
(Trying to avoid a trip to A&E)

If she can't straighten it, its still sore etc then I would say it needs looked at.
I know 2 families where the kids slipped on the kitchen floor, and hurt their arm/elbow. It was 2/3 days later before they attended A&E and in both cases were broken.
It's too hard to tell, I think it just needs looked at. Do you have a minor injuries unit nearby?

You can only be certain with an x ray.

Please take her. My parents don’t take me for a “sprained” ankle that turned out to be broken weeks Larry. 35 years and lots of £££ physio later it still plays up.

Thank you both, that's very helpful. I'll take her up to minor injuries.

My dd broke her arm falling over chasing her brother, ds2 broke his shoulder and clavicle very badly (needed op), ds1 broke his shoulder and wrist badly (both ds’s injuries rugby related) . No noticeable bruising on any, so bruising is definitely not an indicator of a break. Very little swelling also, just to add. I think people often think breaks/fractures will look worse than they do in reality.

It’s definitely worth taking her. I hope she’s soon on the mend.

Thanks everyone, sorry to hear about your various breaks and fractures. We are on our way to hospital.

I fractured me elbow and it turned black but it was days later. Always worth getting it checked.

All checked out by the triage nurse and it's just badly bruised thankfully. I'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks for your supportive messages.
