Bright (echogenic) bowel and measuring on lowest percentile

Went for my 20 week scan and most things seemed fine but got told baby has a bright bowel (which I believe is an echogenic bowel) and baby is measuring below the lowest centile has anyone else had experience of this? And could please give me more insight and possibly positive stories to put my mind at ease?

Got to wait to hear for a follow up scan with a consultant at the fetal medicine unit

Everything else seemed fine but they couldn't get a good view of the heart so have to have that rechecked as well
Never really got told much about it but have read up on it

Worried as my other two babies have been above the 90th centile so with the baby being small and the bright bowel I'm scared there's a problem

Hi I just name changed back to a previous name to respond to you.

I had the same thing on my 20 week scan back in July. I was heartbroken when I read up on what this could mean for my baby and feared the worst. However when I saw the fetal medicine team at my local NHS trust they were very reassuring. It was just likely to have occurred because I had an early bleed and the baby swallowed some of it. Size wise they confirmed he was measuring as expected so from that point of view I can't help.

I really hope your appointment goes well with fetal medicine. Go armed with a list of questions so you remember what you may want to ask.

As for positive... My baby boy is 15 weeks and currently lying rather heavily on me fast asleep Grin

I wish you all the best.
