Help me find my fantasy retirement home!

Hear me out!

I am having a lovely fantasy about retirement.... in which my children are grown and have fulfilled, independent lives, I am a young Mid sixties, slim, fit action gran - obviously I am going to lose three stone of menopausal blubber between now and then......

Anyway, in my fantasy home there are no DP’s, DC’s, cats, dogs, toys, just stuff. Just me!

I don’t like driving so I want a town/ city that is a comfortable train ride (long is OK) to London, which I love but couldn’t afford what I’d like...

I want somewhere walkable to nice shops (local ones fine) and cafes, lovely parks, safe but not too posh either. I am your v obvious Guardian reading, liberal, middle class lefty. I’d like 2 bedrooms or 1 with potential. Houses or flats. Prefer light, upper floor. Would love outside space but v low maintenance. I love the look of Victorian flats but worry about upkeep.

Budget 475. But I want something gorgeous.

Where should I go? 😁😁

Beautiful, historical Chester...right by the river....and Curzon Park is one of the posh bits too.

2 hours from London on the direct train I believe. Three quarters of an hour from Liverpool/Manchester

Saughall is one of Chester's ancient, outlying villages...beautiful and friendly place...nice little community with good pubs, lovely Farmer's Market (mini but cute) on the weekends.

Rather grand building here...a three bed apartment in a lovely Victorian conversion, close to Handbridge which is basically the city centre of Chester.

Ooh thank you. I’d not considered Chester but it is beautiful there - good call.

Love property 1 and quite like 3. 2 isn’t my style.

Thank you!

Sounds like my fantasy life/retirement too. I want my flat to have 2 bedrooms, so one of them can be a properly decked out storage room so the rest of my flat will be all calm and clutter free.

It will have a nice balcony/terrace for me to sit on in the warmer weather. If there are gardens someone else will be responsible for the gardening.

Exeter!

Two hours to London on the train. Plenty of local buses but whole city pretty walkable. Access to lovely countryside possible by public transport.

This property is in St Leonards which is the posh bit with very posh local shops ;)

Leicester? Sounds like you’d fit right in there.
