Best supermarket curry?

HaggisTheGreat · 09/03/2020 13:33

Had a disappointing/overpriced Indian takeaway this weekend. Still annoyed about it. So want to get something from the shops for that next “want a curry but too lazy to make one” moment. Any recommendations? Or any good ready made curry sauces that you rate?

Sainsbury’s curry’s are by far the best, I love the king prawn makhani! Tesco ready meals are awful in my opinion fake processed chicken.

Lightsabre · 09/03/2020 14:57

Goan fish curry from Waitrose is delish. Also like the Cook range but £££.

Fleamaker123 · 09/03/2020 15:01

Booths supermarket curries are delicious, best by far I feel.
Still looking for a decent Chinese ready meal... the supermarket ones are awful.

I've discovered my new pressure cooker does an amazing curries. Otherwise, M&S is my usual standard.

Ninkanink · 09/03/2020 15:06

Never been impressed with the vast majority of Waitrose ready meals. Added to that, I’m boycotting.

M&S do lots of good ones but I cannot recommend as I’m boycotting.

Asda’s curries are surprisingly good, and quite reasonably priced.

Beautyoftheirdreams · 09/03/2020 15:06

Sainsbury butter chicken is my ultimate food treat. It's delicious

Ninkanink · 09/03/2020 15:06

Sainsbury’s are good too but you do pay more. We just get them from Asda now as we like a bargain.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/03/2020 15:10

M&S piri piri chicken is lovely, very spicy. If you like Thai their green curry is amazing, def my fave ready meal

Runkle · 09/03/2020 15:15

Sainsbury King prawn makhani is gorgeous. I like Morrisons too.

Bunnylady54 · 09/03/2020 16:03

Goldfish is rather an unfortunate name!

FamilyOfAliens · 09/03/2020 16:09

Can’t you just order from another takeaway? When we had a disappointing curry we just ordered from somewhere different the next time.

Still looking for a decent Chinese ready meal

I don't think the 'stir fry' style of Chinese cooking works very well as a ready meal. I quite like sweet and sour or lemon battered chicken and I had a mince and noodles thing from M&S that was very nice but find most of them are poor, but the Chinese takeaway we use is fairly cheap, so hardly any more than the supermarket versions, much nicer and you get loads more food.

I find Indian expensive and not great for takeaways, so either prefer M&S 'takeaway' at home deal, as it's cheaper and nicer, or to go out to Bundobust for street food style stuff that neither the conventional 'chicken tikka masala, bhuna or rogan josh' type places or supermarkets tend to do.

mrscatalano · 09/03/2020 16:24

I like M&S the best. Cook meals are good but overpriced imo.

SummerOfComedy · 09/03/2020 16:36

M&S Lamb Rogan Josh.

The meat is so soft with not a scrap of fat. The sauce is delicious.

Best I've had from anywhere.

Cacaca · 09/03/2020 16:44

Tesco range that is branded with the numbers or the m&s Indian range.

Sandsnake · 09/03/2020 16:47

Spice Tailor, definitely! I’ve recently tried their Biriyani kits, which are also excellent.

Saladd0dger · 09/03/2020 16:50

I love the Tesco box meals 1. Tikka/jalfrezi I think it is.

RedSheep73 · 09/03/2020 16:52

The Waitrose ones are actually really nice

PrincessSarene · 09/03/2020 16:53

Waitrose for ready meal curries, and Spice Tailor kits for easy to cook yourself.

Chillywilly93 · 22/10/2022 01:51

Anything from M&S basically is good, usually about £1.50/£2 more than Sainsbury's or Tesco but worth it IMO. Don't bother with the 'Best Ever' Tikka Masala from M&S as it's very expensive and includes no rice. Sainsbury's is better than Tesco and similar price.

Asda chicken tikka masala. Don't usually do supermarket curry but this is for the exact moment you've described and hits the spot

hesbeingabitofadick · 22/10/2022 05:58

The Sainsburys Tikka is awful.
It's flavourless...unless you like tomato.
