My iPhone has set a passcode which I don't know - any idea how I can get past it or reset it?

I bought an iPhone 8 on eBay a few weeks ago for my daughter's birthday.
It had been reset so I switched it on to check it was working ok.
I didn't set a passcode.
Now when I switch it on it is asking for a 6 digit passcode which I don't know!
I've tried 111111 and 123456 but they don't work.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Contact the person you bought it from and ask what the passcode it has

Then make sure you take it off when you open it up

I have tried that. They had reset the phone and say that their passcode will have been deleted ... which makes sense.
They said to try 1234 or 123456 but I'd already tried those.

If you have a Mac you can download an app called Apple Configurator and take the passcode off. I've done this before with work iPads when people leave without resetting them!

Thanks, I've managed to reset it
I contacted apple and they guided me through it
I simply had to download iTunes to my computer and login using my wife's login and connect the phone and choose restore option.

Glad it’s sorted

I'm not sure if the apple person did something on my wife's iTunes account or whether anyone can do this?
I'm hoping it's not that easy to reset an iPhone!
