Problem with DFS sofa - advice on how to deal with them

Hi, we bought a DFS leather sofa just over a year ago. It was a supposed high grade leather and cost almost £2k so not cheap. I’ve had a leather sofa from there before and lasted 10 + years so didn’t hesitate or worry. I loved the sofa when it arrived but after 6 months I was horrified to see small parts of Leather peeling off, it’s like the surface of the Leather has rubbed off!!

I rang and emailed and eventually a man from the local store came out. He implied I must have used something chemical to clean it which I hadn’t. But he did repair it by painting/spraying over the patches and it looked as good as new... until the past few months the exact same thing has happened! It now looks horrendous and like an old tatty sofa. The leather is peeling off in tiny patches on all the seating areas, almost looks like someone has applied tippex over it as lots of small white spots. If it is real leather should it wear like that?

I’m so annoyed as we saved for a long time to replace our sofa and I thought I had found the perfect pals grey/silver colour I wanted for my room. I won’t ever be able to afford a new sofa for at least 10 more years, please tell me I’m not stuck with this awful looking shabby one now.

I’d love some advice as to if I have any hope of getting sofa replaced or money back? I don’t want another repair as I can see the same thing will happen and I want this resolved before the 2 year warranty is up! Any similar experiences or advice?

Go in when the shop is busy and complain loudly. They couldn't help my Dad quick enough.

All the leather products come from China in shipping containers. They should be done under the trade descriptions act for using the words "quality".

I would go in with lots of blown up a4 size photos on a very busy Saturday and "discuss" the issue on the shop floor in my outdoor voice - keep asking the sales manager to speak up as your ears are a bit bunged up and you can't hear well.

Ask them to repeat if they say they can't help. Then express astonishment (quite loudly) that their sofas only last 18 months.

Our leather sofas were from Harvey's. They are now 16 years old and don't look much different from when we bought them. I've cleaned with all sorts of things - the official stuff provided, ordinary leather wipes etc.

Just wanted to know which brands people do recommend as being better quality sofas?

My elderly parents bought a leather sofa from dfs in 2018 costing £5000 after three and a half years we noticed leather peeling off it looks like white paint or tip ex had been painted in dots all over the seat cushion on the settee my mum had taken out insurance for the sofa when she bought the sofa was told it would be covered for everything for 5 years so we put a claim in to guardsman a man came out to look at the sofa and said he needed to order a colour lacquer came back a week or so later and put the lacquer on the sofa about a week after he did this the sofa looked dirty grey stains were on the part he had repaired so we rang guardsman and explained this we was told they use a different lacquer now and they had other complaints about the repairs due to this new lacquer. We have noticed the leather is bubbling in parts so we told the insurance company they told us to put in a separate claim for this issue and they would send the man out to repair both faults in mean time we received a letter to say that we are not covered for leather bubbling and peeling we are only covered for accidental damage which I think is appalling so we have spoke to dfs who have also fobbed us off we have had many sofas that are leather and never had this problem before the other sofas had lasted over 15 years so my elderly mum is left with a leather expensive sofa which is not fit for purpose
