No food delivery slots available because of bloody COVID-19

No slots available until Tuesday at Sainsbury's and until Thursday if I want a delivery from Ocado or Waitrose! I honestly don't believe that many people are self isolating right now so I assume it's panic buying going on. I felt so bloody proud of myself trying to get the food shop sorted tonight when I usually wait until last minute tomorrow to order my shop for Sunday.

I'm so annoyed that I'll have to drag the kids out on the bus to the (probably busier than normal) shops where I'm sure the shelves will be bare anyway. I'm onto my last roll of toilet paper so hopefully there's some left! Has anyone else been inconvenienced due to all the panic at the moment?

Ok the above sounds heartless.. I'm really sympathetic to those that are sick or dealing with the death of a loved one due to the virus. It's everyone else I'm annoyed at.

Yup. My Ocado shop is coming tomorrow but might as well not be for the ridiculous number of substitutions and missing items. Will be going out first thing tomorrow to see if I can replace them elsewhere!

friskybivalves · 06/03/2020 22:39

Can you try Amazon fresh? They had Sunday evening slots available in my area not long ago.

HeddaGarbled · 06/03/2020 22:41

Honestly, no. I keep reading this sort of thing, but all local shops and supermarkets fully stocked here (apart from hand sanitiser) and no problem getting regular Tesco delivery slot. Rural East Anglia.

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2020 22:42

I know. I started a thread a few days ago saying that I normally book my Saturday delivery slot with Morrisons on a Wednesday and then just add to the order nearer the day.

But I spotted an email on Monday, telling me that 'due to higher than usual demand', I might want to book my usual slot earlier. I did and there were only a few left.

mynameiscalypso · 06/03/2020 22:43

Similar issue to @Ilovewheelychairs here; god knows what's actually going to turn up in our shop. They've also run out of some of most random things too. Who is stockpiling polenta?!

Muddlingalongalone · 06/03/2020 22:46

Yes I too will have to shop on sunday in person coz I went online to book a slot yesterday & nothing available til tues/weds with ocado or morrisons. Grrr

Vagessence · 06/03/2020 22:47

Just checked @friskybivalves Amazon is looking a bit better with Monday afternoon slots. But I think Monday might be a bit of a stretch for one toilet roll. Perhaps I'll start rationing it.. unfortunately my two year hold has recently discovered the joy of sitting on the toilet and wiping (the wrong part) over and over and over.

@Muddlingalongalone I just don't know what the world is coming to that we have to actually leave our houses to get food. Madness.

Bring back the corner shop

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2020 23:05

My corner shops are still all very much there.

But they only stock over priced convenience foods/toiletries. I can get bread, milk, eggs, loo roll etc but nowhere near a full shopping list.

Hannah888 · 06/03/2020 23:13

I ordered my weekly shop early because I thought all slots would be taken. Masses left and delivered today and nothing missing. Tesco will fix you up.

HarrietSchulenberg · 06/03/2020 23:14

Self isolation is clearly unworkable if everyone's having to nip out for supplies.

Horehound · 06/03/2020 23:15

Honestly, listen to yourself. "Bleat bleat I can't get my shopping delivered...waahhh wahhh"

Hmm
ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/03/2020 23:15

There's a whole topic for this.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 06/03/2020 23:20

Op, seriously you are moaning about Waitrose deliveries.

strawberrylipgloss · 06/03/2020 23:28

I booked my Tesco slot yesterday for today and my 2 shower gels and handwash was substituted for acceptable alternatives and I got my 24 pack of loo rolls.

There were no hand gels in stock but apart from that it was fine

Vagessence · 06/03/2020 23:37

@TopBitchoftheWitches yes and? Just because there are more important things in life doesn't mean I can't moan about the lesser things.

@Horehound aren't you a peach!

@ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal yeah fair point, I only realised after posting.

Worraliberty
They only overprice because of large supermarkets...
Which can’t now make deliveries 🚚

LadyMarathonRunner · 06/03/2020 23:48

Lots of slots available around here with all the major supermarkets from Sunday onwards.

Maybe you should move ?

DippyAvocado · 06/03/2020 23:49

I normally shop online but popped into my local Tesco today. Haven't been in for a couple of weeks so I was quite shocked by the empty shelves. No pasta, rice, soap, toilet roll or kitchen towel. I normally book my online slot for a Sunday or Monday so hoping I'll be able to get something. Wish I'd kept my Brexit stash now!

superram · 06/03/2020 23:52

I normally book the day before but after reading on here I booked a slot for Sunday. So far only paracetamol unavailable. Plenty of wine anyway!

PumpkinP · 07/03/2020 00:22

The thing is the slots are also a lot more money, usually If I book 3/4 days in advance the slot prices are £2/3 yet now they are £7 Shock cos of the demand.
