I'm posting here in the hope someone may see this. I posted yesterday and didn't get any replies. The Dr has prescribed me this.

I have anemia and have been to weak to do anything for a month. This is to help stop my heavy periods.

Has anyone taken this?

Side effects?

Bleeding or no bleeding?

Scared to swallow it until I have an idea. Thanks.

I've jinxed myself. I'm spotting after taking it for two days? Is this normal?

I had 1 bleed at the start and then stopped. Yes it can be normal for spotting/bleeding to occur to begin with

Thank you. I'll keep going for now then. They want me to bleed less so I hope this doesn't make me worse.

Hello. My GP prescribed Desogestral six months ago as I am perimenopausal and my periods were ridiculously heavy. It was really effecting me. I do not need it for contraception so do not have to take it at the same time every day although I take it when I wake up every day. The first two months my periods were regular but short and light, the third month my period was a couple of days of spotting and since then my periods have stopped! It is bliss. I have no side effects at all.
The GP explained that for some people it makes periods heavier and for some it makes them very irregular and light and for some people they stop.

Mine is just called desogestral it has no brand name. Only downside is that it tastes awful. I have learnt to deal with it, the pay off is worth it.Smile

Thank you. I guess it's a case of wait and see then. Sounds great that it stopped your heavy bleeds! Mine are also heavy and I can't recover from anemia before the next one starts. Been really bad lately. The Dr said we need to stop the bleeding. So I'm abit worried how this could work out for me. I'm due on in ten days but crampy today. I guess that's the pill causing that.

I'm on desogestrel, and am fine now, no periods at all and no problems, but will say that the first month of taking it was pretty bad, bled heavily for about 3 weeks straight and was on the verge of giving up, when it all just stopped, and like I said no problems since - healthexpress.co.uk/desogestrel
