Pleasure of evening walks

Corona-distraction alert. Recently started going for a walk in the evening and loving them. Should stop staring in people's windows though.

Do you go for one? How long have you done it and do you feel they benefit you?

I love it too but haven't done it lately as weather too bad. I love looking through windows too Grin

I am 'lucky' that I would not have to be too aware (of danger) when out walking.
Reckon many people would just find an evening walk in their locale stressful.

anicebag · 05/03/2020 21:03

It's like a found part of the day isn't it? I hope I keep it up.

Yes - exactly this, an extra bonus at the end of the day! So lovely to get into March, for this reason

I remember a very elegant English teacher at school saying she walked every evening after dinner with her husband. Even as a teenager I thought this sounded so nice.

I love it in summer - as soon as it’s still light after dinner I like to take the DC for a walk round the block, or we can be in the countryside in five minutes. We just chat and look for anything that catches our eye. I miss it a lot in winter.

Live rurally, so can only really do this when the days get longer. Often go with friends, popping in for a cheeky refreshment half way round at a local pub 😉. Really enjoy it - a bit of exercise and a good catch up.

I love a walk out with DS in his pushchair.. Can't wait till its a little lighter so we can go again. We have quite a nice circular route going up through two villages approx 1 and half hours/shorter one of about 50 min and also have access to a lovely coastal walk which takes approx 1 and half ish depending on pace walked.. Also a Dene near us so quite a few options

I don't like walking in the lighter evenings, I like the anonymity of the dark. I love a cold clear night for a walk. I'm on the couch in my dressing gown, I wish I was out there now!

sockittome123 · 05/03/2020 21:14

Can't wait for the warmer and longer evenings so that I can do this, we have lots of walking trails around where I live and I can get to one in five minutes, one of my favourite things to do

OhLook · 05/03/2020 21:15

I get bored of walking the same routes, and there are only so many I can walk.

I too love an evening walk, I enjoy seeing how things change through the seasons. The dark, frosty winter evenings when the sky is full of stars, through to the endless light nights of the summer when I can be out at 10pm and the birds are still singing. The first Christmas lights always give me a real boost and I do like getting a sneaky glimpse into people's lives as I walk past their houses. 5 minutes or 2 hours, an evening walk is definitely worth trying to fit in.

anicebag · 05/03/2020 21:22

It's nice to hear everyone's stories. Ssd- I like the anonymity of the dark too. Maybe we need to hide under a baseball cap in the lighter evenings. The cap may make the staring at peoples houses less obvious?

I love evening walks after dinner and this thread has made me remember to have one soon. Something to look forward to.

Samtsirch · 05/03/2020 21:34

I have a dog so have learned to appreciate the pleasures of early morning/ midday/ evening walks whatever the weather.
Sometimes I dread leaving the comfort of the house due to cold/rain etc but always enjoy it once I’m out there and feel so much better afterwards.

ssd · 05/03/2020 22:59

I feel all exposed walking in the light evenings!
