Who has right of way?

Last week I was pushing my son in his buggy, in the pouring rain. I was approaching a pelican pedestrian crossing where just before the cars get the green light, the green man flash and the orange lights for the drivers flash to warn everyone.

I was jogging as I was approaching the crossing and I cannot remember if it was the green man or flashing green man. Maybe I entered when it was flashing, im not sure, but it was green. As I was halfway across the road, the lights were flashing, and a car that had stopped at the lights decided to put the foot down. I put my hand straight out in a "stop" signal and he did, but not without blasting his horn continuously. I get to the other side and the lights are still flashing (so I made it in heaps of time) . He then roars off in his car and I mutter obscenities under my breath.

I have only got more and more annoyed about this asshole and I'm considering requesting cctv footage from the council (it's our high st and I think there should be footage). I want to pass it onto the police.

My only question is would I land myself in trouble if the green man was flashing when I entered the crossing? I know I shouldn't do that but I cleared the road in plenty of time.

If you were in the road as a pedestrian, then you had the right of way.

I think probably it would have been better not to jog onto the crossing with your baby - it’s possible that the drivers didn’t realise you were going to enter the crossing if everything was flashing. This happened to me before when I was out running, I got clipped by a car because I ran across the road on a flashing green man.

Probably just be careful - it doesn’t really matter who is right.

If the green man was flashing then the lights for the car were not at green so he shouldn't have been moving over the crossing at all.

OP says the car was stopped at the lights so he shouldn't be moving until the light was at green

If it’s raining then you’d expect a driver to give you the right of way to save you getting soaked, unless they were in a convertible with the roof down then you were in the wrong 🤣🤣

From highway code:

As a driver, youMUSTgive way to any pedestrians on the crossing, when the amber light is flashing. If the amber light is flashing and there are no pedestrians on the crossing, you may proceed with caution.

After the lights start flashing, watch out for people making a last-minute dash. Be prepared to let them cross but do not wave others onto the crossing.
