Is anyone else actually putting in effort for World Book Day this year?

DCs school only celebrate World Book Day and Children in Need every other year, alternating. This year is World Book Day.

6 year old really loves dressing up and had a character in mind for it since before last WBD. We've had a few hard financial years and this year I can actually afford to spare a bit for her to be who she wants rather than what's in the wardrobe already.

I haven't spent a massive amount, the face paints cost more than the rest put together.

I'm currently swearing at my sewing machine wondering why I didn't just order in.

She loves me for it though. That's the main thing. 😁

Oldest is in reception so this is my first one. Haven’t bought anything new except needles as I’ve been sewing for the first time in several years!!! My needle work is dreadful but it’s ok because it’s just patches on a pink dress - she’s going as Betty o barley from the scarecrow’s wedding. Found some dungarees for the little one and even though she’s not at school she’s going to be Harry o hay. I am literally sooooo excited. I really don’t care if that makes me a loser!

DD is going as Aslan from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

I'm currently adding 'fur' patches to a brown top and brown leggings, made from a already owned fleecey blanket that I have dyed a tan colour.

Her hair is a great colour for a lions mane, it's on the turn from blonde to brown so stripey atm. I'm under instructions to braid it wet the night before to make it 'frizzy like a mane'.

Dd7 is wearing a polka dot dress based on the current book she's reading called The polka dot dress 🤣
I don't think I've ever brought a specific outfit for WBD

DCs school are doing a bedtime story theme so they just need pyjamas thankfully. Really takes the pressure off!

Our school did it today. I made dd1 a Bilbo Baggins costume that I was quite proud of! We had the fake ears already from a different costume and got the other bits from around the house.

Dd2 went in a Koala onesie she already had.
