S8 screen broken and want to transfer photos

The screen on my Samsung S8 died yesterday so I can't unlock it and want to transfer my photos on to laptop. I can't get anywhere as I need to unlock the phone but can't!
Has anyone had similar and manages to transfer photos. Most things I've seen online I also need to be able to unlock the phone. Aaarrrrggggh!

Would it work if you plug the phone into a PC? Sometimes you can access the stored files that way although not sure if you’d need to be able to access the screen to give permission or something .

Alternatively I’ve had a cloned phone before , via EE so exactly the same files on new phone, but that’s expensive from memory

You just connect it to your PC with a cable. You don't need to be able to get into the phone.

I've tried that but it says I need to unlock the phone. So yes I need to allow the PC to access the phone. I also tried unlocking it via the Samsung find my phone but as the battery died it can't locate it as I need to unlock the phone to fully start it. Phone is charged.

My screen on my s8 died and after googling I found a thing that turned it back on. If you google samsung s8 black screen of death there are lots of things that you can try first? Might work?

Only a new screen will work and they are about as much as a second hand one.
If you set up a google account and a Samsung account and it was originally set up to save photos you may find them but you would need another Samsung device to find this out

This happened me. Theres a Chinese guy in our town. He placed a new screen over mine and transferred everything. Paid him a tenner

Bugger it doesn't look good. If the screen would behave so I could unlock it all would be well. I was just going to upgrade due to cost of screen!
Screen has now gone from green and white to green with stripes through.

This happened to me then I discovered that all the photos had automatically been saved to a "cloud" somewhere! Think it was through google photos. When I logged in to my google account on another device, all the photos were there. I also found them on OneDrive. At no time had I actively gone to the effort of saving them to these things - it just happened!

Sadly they're not all in clouds .
I'll ask the people in the Vodafone shop when I collect my new phone-from past experience some are tech geeks, others less so.
