They are no longer croissanty Sad and are now turnovery!

Anyone know what happened? They have the same flavour but I miss that lovely fluffy croissanty texture! They were my favourite treat Sad

At least you have something almondy!

My local Sainsbury’s (2 local and one very large city centre one) that I use regularly have all stopped doing anything remotely connected to an almond croissant. I have been asking all of them what’s happened for ages - one of the has a (very small!) poster up for a while saying they had been temporarily withdrawn for a fairly spurious reason along with another thing. Then the poster (A4 scrappy sheet of paper) got taken down and nothing replaced them.

My local Morrison’s sometimes have them in and they’re pretty good. Aldi’s also have them in sometimes - different, lots more icing sugar and a more long life feel to them but they are longer life too so will last a few days (allegedly 😂).

My close little Sainsbury’s that used to mark it’s stuff down to have 70-90% off regularly has now got a new manager who only takes 20-39% off. They also keep bringing out new improved recipes which taste much worse than the original recipes so there’s less and less stuff I like now. I try not to eat too much ready made stuff but it’s always been handy to have a few things that you know you like so there’s an easy option when you’ve had a hard day and need it.

Getting rid of he almond croissant was a bad move though. They were always the first thing to go too so why didn’t they get rid of the Nutella croissant or the nut and grease plait? There were always plenty of those left!

Is nut and grease plait a typo? Grin

I went to the Tesco near work this morning and they were mysteriously out of stock. An almond shortage perhaps?!

Although I tend not to buy bakery items from that store as I opened a sealed bag of cookies once and one had a bite taken out of it!

Waitrose ones are nice but maybe a bit too dense and buttery for my liking. Lidl also good but no stores close to me Sad

Nut and grease plait Grin
I'm wondering what's happened to them too. SIL works at a Sainsburys on customer service and in her branch a few people had been returning almond croissants complaining they'd bought them by mistake because they looked too similar to plain ones (even with the almond topping...) but I can't imagine that was a widespread problem to lead to them being completely changed!

I got Almond Croissants at my local Tesco on Sunday. Had the second one for breakfast this morning.

Buy ordinary croissants, split and add a slice or finger of marzipan, bake to warm through. Worth trying this to fill the void!

Dh has already tried buying me a box of marzipan to try to DIY it but it’s industrial cake topping marzipan rather than nice proper marzipan so I haven’t braved it yet! Especially since we discovered Morrison’s started doing them a d they’re almost as nice as the Sainsbury’s ones were.

I have no idea what the proper ingredients of the but and grease plait are - I tried one in the hope that it would be a suitable breakfast treat in lieu of aforementioned almond croissant. But no joy - I couldn’t even finish it, it just seemed to have been soaked in grease which I wasn’t expecting from looking at it!

In the plus side - has everybody switched to using the new nectar app? I’ve found that not only am I collecting more points as they’re more targeted at things I want, since Christmas if I look at my actual paper vouchers occasionally there are some decent money off your next shop vouchers - like £9 off a £60 shop rather than a double your points if you spend £80 that I used to get - so much more worthwhile. I’ve had almost £40 back since Xmas - long may that continue! They even accepted one of the vouchers when it was several days dead and it still went through so worth checking if you don’t usually!
