Has anyone bought a refurbished phone from CEX?

I'm considering buying a refurbished iPhone from CEX. Has anyone done this? The phones come with a 24-month warranty, which seems okay? My problem is that the phones are suspiciously cheap.

I haven’t, but I have sold three or four to our local one; they were all in almost mint condition*, and at least one went onto the shelves before we’d left the store. The one time I noticed, the shelf price was 50% more than they gave me, which I thought was fair, given their overheads and need to make a profit.

*I think CEX has four ‘condition’ grades, which guide how much they buy/sell for.

Got dh one for Christmas, works fine and he's really pleased with it. Obviously no idea if the 2 yr warranty will stand up if I ever need it, but so far so good. It's one if their big selling points so I'm guessing they'd have to honour it.

how do the prices compare with Envirophone? I have had refurbished ones from there with no trouble.

prices are set by supply and demand. if X gullible people with too much money buy a brand new iPhone in september 2017 and then in September 2019 they pretty much all upgrade to the latest model, there will be a huge glut of 2017 model phones dumped on the market. if the potential market interested in buying a 2017 iPhone is smaller than the number available, prices will plummet by February 2020.

I just bought 2 refurbished phones from the 02 online store ( 1 for me, 1 for DS) and they were immaculate, I don't think they had ever been switched on.

Not phones, but we've bought a couple of laptops and a graphics tablet from them (grades A and B) and they've been excellent.

I bought dd (nearly 19) one back in October after she lost hers at a concert as she needed it to get back to uni. Turned it on and the screen was covered in lines. Took it straight back and they apologised and swapped it for a slightly more expensive one and waived the excess money. It’s lasted really well... until she smashed the screen this week 🙄

We had issues with one. Bought it for dd, a week in we found that it worked fine for outgoing calls but the microphone didn't work on incoming calls.
Took it back and they proclaimed it was water damaged and she must have dropped it into water (definitely hadn't) and they refused to refund or repair.
I've heard a couple of other people have similar experiences locally so it may be our one.

I bought an iPhone from them a couple of years ago. Still working perfectly

No, but my S7 Edge is a "refurbished" one from Amazon, and is brilliant. I think the previous "owner" simply changed their mind and sent it back. My previous phone was a refurbished S2. We rarely buy brand new phones in our house now.

Did it quite often with no issues then got a new phone with a problem and had same experince as Witchend - they kept insiting we must have damaged it when we hadn't.

The problem got worse and within few weeks the phone didn't work.

Then oddly family and freinds started having similar problems so we never went back.

Yes I bought my son an iPhone 5 for Christmas and it's been absolutely fine.

SuperMeerkat · 03/03/2020 12:19

The phone i’m on now was a B grade iPhone 6s bought more than 2 years ago for £300. No problems whatsoever and wouldn’t hesitate to buy from there again.

DH bought a refurbished MacBook Air from CEX and my MacBook Pro is from Music Magpie - both perfect.

I bought mine listed as the second from the top tier but honestly, I'm not sure why it wasn't listed a mint condition. There's not a scratch on it, it arrived in the original box with charger and it works perfectly. I'd been really nervous about buying refurbished but I couldn't be happier.
