If you have, was it in good condition?

Are second hand consoles safe? I really want an Xbox 360 for children to play on (we have one and another would allow two player without split screen!) but I'm nervous that I don't know how well looked after a second hand console might have been! Are there any safety risks?

Yes we got a GameCube for DSS for Xmas. It was very good condition and packed well - unfortunately it arrived without the controller (as advertised - I had checked because they had a few without). I emailed and within the hour they had apologised and sent it out first class. Other than that blip, no issues. Have sold with them too with no issue.

Also go through Topcashback as I got about 20% back as well.

No there are no safety risks.

Not a games console but I've bought reconditioned phones and second hand dvds from them in the past, all very good quality, arrived quickly and no problems so would recommend.

Yes I've bought an Xbox one from them, we've had it nearly a year, no problems

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 02/03/2020 20:26

I bought a reconditioned Switch in September and its good stuff, nothing wrong with it at all!

Yay, this is all sounds like good news to my ears (eyes?)! Thank you for the replies everyone :D

If they want to play together you will need x box live so they can link up. On an Xbox one or further models you can share an Xbox live account by doing various steps in settings on both consoles but no idea if possible on a 360.

Shrekhasabogie · 05/03/2020 12:32

Ahhh I didn't realise that! Maybe better in the long run to stick with split screen for now!

Not a games console but I got my MacBook Pro from music magpie last year. I selected the second tier condition-wise but it arrived in mint condition - totally immaculate. I was pleasantly surprised and would use them again.

Shouldbedoing · 05/03/2020 12:52

I've used Music Magpie for a smartphone and a Nintendo 3DS.Both immaculate and with warranty. Fully refurbished

I've since discovered they are a local business and have an acquaintance who knows them, so definitely legit.

GinnyStrupac · 05/03/2020 13:00

No experience of buying a Games console from them, but we stopped buying from them because such a large proportion of used things arrived not as advertised eg DVDs - wrong disc, wrong version, scratched or dirty disc, damaged or dirty box etc.

Thelnebriati · 05/03/2020 13:04

I've had the opposite experience, they've been very reliable and the one time they sent me the wrong item they gave me a no quibble refund straight away.

GinnyStrupac · 05/03/2020 13:09

I agree that their response was good - no quibble refund and apology.

I've bought second-hand consoles from CeX and eBay and they've been fine.

In terms of functionality, make sure the seller guarantees the console isn't banned from online features. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all issue "console bans" if the console is used for cheating, fraud, or piracy and they will not reverse these bans.

Safety concerns, if there's an internal power supply then in theory it could be damaged or full of dust creating a fire risk, but I don't think the risk is any greater than a new appliance really. Controllers could have germs or contamination I guess.
