No best friend as a child.

Yesterday I saw an old school friend post a happy birthday message to her best friend from school, accompanied with lots of photos of them at school age etc.

This led me to think that I didn’t really have a best friend at school. I don’t remember going over to anyone’s house really or having anyone come to mine much.
We lived out in the sticks so it was hard for people to come to me or for me to go to them.
I had more friends at primary school but not many best friends.
During secondary school I had some friends but I don’t remember going into town or ‘hanging out’ with anyone. Certainly no one taking picture of me or me of them. (This was the 80s when taking pictures was unusual) My main friend was a Jehovah's Witness with strict parents. I never once went to her house or met her in town.

Was anyone else like this?

Me too. No best friend just a loose collection of aquaintances. Keeping in touch with school friends isn’t the norm where I am from - it usually only occurs when people haven’t left the town

I had a best friend from day one at primary. We were BFs for the next 2 or 3 years.

Then I was off school ill for at least 3 weeks and when I came back she told me M was her friend now, not me.

So long ago, but I still remember how I felt, and never once had a BF at school again.

In any case, because of parents moving area when I was 18 (pre internet etc.) I lost touch with everyone from school anyway.

TBH it’s never really bothered me, not since primary days, anyway.
