Coronavirus quarantine - what about the family?

I feel like this should be really obvious, but can’t find anything in the official info.

I’m supposed to be going to Italy for work on Monday - in the north but nowhere near any of the affected areas. Infection with coronavirus seems fantastically unlikely, but according to current guidelines if I feel a bit unwell after getting back I’d have to self-quarantine. But what about DH and the DCs? Would they also have to be quarantined, or would that only apply if they too began to feel unwell? I’m prepared to risk getting stuck in the house for 2 weeks myself, but no way am I prepared to risk getting stuck in with the kids!

@catanplayer

How do they test for CV?

If you don't mind me asking?

catanplayer · 28/02/2020 14:19

My dd has nose and mouth swabs taken

CandiceSucksCandy · 28/02/2020 15:00

They do swabs for testing.
I've been to an affected region and the person I travelled with has a cough and a temperature.
I've been told to car

CandiceSucksCandy · 28/02/2020 15:01

I've been told to carry on as normal unless I develop symptoms, in which case the whole family will quarantine.
I find out next week whether my colleague has it. Probably not but I'm following the official rules.

It’s quite an important meeting, and right up in the mountains a long way from any of the cases.

I’d be much more concerned about the airports than location of meeting. Cases are also spreading. A man locally has been diagnosed after being in northern Italy and not having any contact with the quarantined areas.

Self isolation is a boring hassle, and that’s without children to take into the equation.

You might be going to a place up in the mountains OP but you’ll be travelling through an airport and on a plane home with people who may have come through infected areas. Not worth the risk IMO.

How do they test for CV?

The testing kits detect the genetic material of the virus. Very established technology that can pick up very low amounts.
