Any ideas what costumes I could do for a boy for romeo and juliet

And a girl for holes.

Ive never even heard of holes.

For holes you need an orange boiler suit.

HasaDigaEebowai · 27/02/2020 15:00

and a name tag that says Stanley Yelnats plus ideally a red basball cap and a toy lizard

Fatopupo · 27/02/2020 15:03

Thakyou Hasa.

For Holes any jeans, sweatshirt and a baseball cap American teenager look.

Romeo & Juliet, tights and a belted tunic? Have you got a cape or cloak at all? it's not so easy to put together is it!
Maybe go in ordinary clothes and say it is a modern dress production! Wink

Fatopupo · 27/02/2020 15:18

I can't see DS wearing tights.

Why do they have to have a specific book. It's daft. They should be able to choose

AdaColeman · 27/02/2020 15:21

I know, I was thinking that about the tights! Bound to be unpopular!

I'd bet they've watched or will watch the Leonardo DiCaprio Romeo and Juliet - loads of directions you could go in for boy's costumes from that:

Of course Romeo and Juliet isn't a book it's a play... Which means it's inappropriate for world book Day, and also you can where any costume which might work for any kind of theatre production of the play.

Holes is brilliant - technically only the boys wore boiler suits, she should go as Kissing Kate (cowboy outfit or long dress depending whether before or after her boyfriend was murdered).

Ask your kids about the characters!

PoolsOfSunshineThroughTheGlass · 27/02/2020 15:26

Wear not where

Fatopupo · 27/02/2020 15:28

They're only 7/8 so I don't think they'll watch the Baz Lurhman version

Or Warden Walker for a female character in He's (baddy) - jeans, checked shirt, cowboy hat.

Fatopupo · 27/02/2020 15:29

I will ask them when they get home. I was just putting the feelers out

I think DD would rather be a boy in a boiler suit than someone called Kissing Kate.

DD hasn't worn a dress in 2 years 😂

Cowboy outfit would work though!

Fatopupo Shock Holes = Year 7, Romeo and Juliet = Year 10.

Those aren't year 2/3 choices!

That's ridiculous!

AdaColeman · 27/02/2020 15:33

Maybe skinny jeans would work for Romeo, with a hip length belted tunic, that's what most of the fancy dress costumes seem to be based on.
Also they met at a masked ball, so perhaps modern dress and a mask, you could make one out of thin card and decorate it.

PoolsOfSunshineThroughTheGlass · 27/02/2020 15:34

Fatopupo Kissing Kate Barlow was an outlaw - everyone she kissed, she killed. She's a central character described only through flashbacks to a century before the main plot (late 18th century America). She's a white school teacher who falls in love with a black small-businessman and when she's seen kissing him he's murdered and she becomes an outlaw/ highway woman. She's a bad ass not a simpering kissy love interest.

How about leggings rather than tights? X

Nunyabusiness · 27/02/2020 19:27

There was a priest in Romeo and Juliet...and a postman...

SuperFurryDoggy · 27/02/2020 19:33

7 and 8 years old or Year 7 and Year 8? They don’t seem like suitable choices for younger children!

Fatopupo · 27/02/2020 20:09

Sorry8/9 years old. Year 4 for romeo.

And Yr 6 for Holes.

I would send your son in a t-shirt saying ‘not a book’. It’s easier than dressing him as a capulet.
