The left hand side of lake Garda, and along the bottom of the lake until peschiera is Lombardia and one of the effected regions yes.

The right hand side of lake Garda and Venice is in The Venoto region, which is one also of the effected regions (not sure about category 1 though)

It is closed until end of March, things might have changed by then?

LIZS · 26/02/2020 14:29

No the line is further North, although bordering.

I am in the same boat - first time we have had a holiday abroad in 5 years. Watching situation with interest.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/02/2020 15:04

How much later in the year? I wouldn't go in the next couple of months unless you have the financial resources to miss work for several weeks upon your return or are prevented from travel. I wouldn't regardless as uneccesary travel is selfish in such times. Presumably the half term holiday travel entitlement will result in additional cases.

If wait and see OP, if you can get a refund though I'd consider that and keep an eye on official advice.

Sufferingjaysus · 26/02/2020 15:05

Gardaland is on right hand side of the lake, in Veneto province (it’s between towns of Peschiera and Lazise)

Had a look at government website - Lombardy and Veneto are both category 2. Appears that only those towns that are on lockdown are category 1 at present.

Keep an eye on the official government website

Good article on bbc news page

Does Venice and lake Garda come under the catagory 1 area for conovaviris ?
Sufferingjaysus · 26/02/2020 15:12

The situation is going to change, probably quite quickly. If you’re not due to travel for a while, or for several months, then it’s hi op early to know.

There’s a link to the government website from the bbc news article, keep checking that for official advice.

Great area for a holiday by the way, I hope that you get to go and that you enjoy it

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 26/02/2020 15:13

gov.uk have released a statement about this. Have a google, it'll give you all the detail you need to know

Melassa · 26/02/2020 15:14

I would wait and see, if you’re not going until June/July there is time. There is speculation that with the advent of spring/summer or just warmer temperatures the situation will improve as from current data hotter countries have been less hit.

Most large events in Northern Italy have been moved to June as a safe bet that the worst will be over.

Lardlizard · 26/02/2020 15:27

That map is crap ! You can’t even see the areas
Like I can’t even see where lake Garda is on that map

LIZS · 26/02/2020 15:36

Is Lake Garda not in the middle?!

Melassa · 26/02/2020 16:48

Lake Garda is the blue bit between Lombardy and Veneto

Gohackyourself · 26/02/2020 16:54

I’m going in august and am reading every bit of news on it at present.
I don’t know whether to cancel now so only loose deposit or sit it out

LIZS · 26/02/2020 17:07

These viruses tend to be self limiting, so would not cancel yet. The summer heat may well minimise spread eventually.
