Goggle reckons 5 months!!!!!

They're 10 weeks and have just doubled it. Are they gaining too quick?

Mine has nearly doubled their birth weight at 9 weeks, he was small to begin with only 5 pounds at birth. We had our doctor check up last week and although she said he had gained a lot of weight she wasn’t worried

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/02/2020 03:31

DS1 was a 'failure to thrive' baby and underweight for a long time
DS2 doubled his birthweight at about 6 months but he was huge to begin with.

Both were perfectly average at around the 50th centile for weight by the time they were 2.

Dennisreynoldsduster · 26/02/2020 03:38

How big they are when they are born must be a
Consideration as DS only had to put 5 pounds to double whereas if he had been ten pounds he would have had to have put that on within the same amount of time IYSWIM

I’d say they’re doing brilliantly OP. Smaller babies should double their weight quicker than larger babies. Most 0-3 month clothes are for up to 14lb, so you’re close to that. FWIW, my 6lb 14oz took over 8 months to reach 14lb, but had failure to thrive.

KindergartenKop · 26/02/2020 10:40

Also, they're probably smaller than they would have been as single babies. Now space isn't an issue they're finding their 'right' centile.

Pipandmum · 26/02/2020 10:44

Gosh it took my son that long to regain to his birth weight! He was over 10lbs at birth at 37 weeks, did not feed well first couple weeks so lost some... he's now a strapping 16 year old.
If your HV is happy with progress don't worry about it.

bloodywhitecat · 26/02/2020 10:47

He was 2.89kg at birth and was 5.7kg when weighed at 14 weeks.

mynameiscalypso · 26/02/2020 10:48

Way before 5 months here; but he was born on the 9th percentile and within a couple of weeks was up to the 75th where he's remained ever since and which fits with his other measurements. I think he wasn't getting what he needed in the womb as his growth had also tailed off towards the end.

Cookit · 26/02/2020 10:49

First one not long. Within a month. But he wasn’t born heavy and he just ballooned a little bit and then slimmed down massively once he started moving and is way under average weight and height now.

Second one longer but she weighed more at birth and girls grow a bit slower on average I think. However with her it’s very much a guess as she’s only been weighed a couple of times as I realised it didn’t really matter at all as long as I know she’s looking healthy.

I would have thought it’s logical that a 6lb baby would double quicker than a 10lb baby? They can’t keep growing proportionate to their birth rate or the 10lber would be adult sized by a few years old.

DH is convinced the twins will be Cookit 😂😂😂

DS is 4 months (born 7lb 9) and still hasn't, only 5 ounces to go though.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2020 20:11

I just worry they've gained too fast. They have proper little pot bellies 🙈🙈

Many months. I think she was 12lb at about 8 months old. Born at 5.12. She's still very slim and eats like a horse at 13. As long as they were growing along their percentile line no one worried. She was happy and healthy and ate well. Just very petite.

reluctantbrit · 26/02/2020 20:29

DD was 6lb6oz and doubled when she was exactly 3 months.
