Anyone got experience of ear infections?

I'm assuming my dd has one. She was up through the night with awful ear pain. Today the pain hasn't been too bad, but her ear feels blocked. She says it feels like it dies on an aeroplane. She's not feeling too bad in herself though. She went to school today and seems ok.

I feel like I should be rushing her to the gp to get checked over but advice seems to say that infections tend to clear up in a few days on their own. She's never had ear problems before. So, do people find that they tend to sort themselves out or is a gp visit on the cards?

Like it does on a plane, not dies!

Yes had a bad one in January , pain all down my face . I was prescribed Otomize spray (antibiotic ). It cleared in a week. Then same again for opposite ear, still had the spray so used it.
Now beginning to feel the same again not happy
See how it is tomorrow and phone for an appointment if she still has pain.

DD1 gets an ear infection about once a year, whenever she gets a cold it sort of settles on her ears. Our GP has said the best thing to do is just to wait it out with lots of Calpol and Nurofen, and see if it 'pops' and the pressure is relieved. A smear of gunky discharge usually ends up on her pillow, and then she's fine after a day or so. But the run up is horrible, because it is painful.

Dd's just had one. I gave it five days and then took her to the GP. She needed antibiotics to clear it up as the eustachian (sp?) was blocked.

Ear infections can be caused by viruses or bacteria, only th ebacterial ones would need antiobiotics.

Id give her pain killers and monitor it a while, probably keep an eye on her temperature too. If its showing no signs of going away or her temperatures on the increase make an appointment with your Dr.

If shes not in a lot of pain i would wait it out. Take her to the gp if the pain gets worse.
Ive taken my 2 kids in for check 4 times combined with ear pain, prescribed antibiotics every single time just by looking in the ear. I always decided to wait a couple days before giving it as the kids werent in a lot of pain, just discomfort. And every single time the infections cleared up without meds.

Ok, thanks for that everyone. I'll see what kind of night she has tonight but maybe give her some nurofen before bed just incase!
She was off colour last week with a cold/temperature/ virus type thing so maybe it's part of that.
