Corona-Anyone else holding off booking a holiday?

With news this morning a hotel with 1k guests in Tenerife has been put under quarantine I'm rethinking booking our first ever abroad holiday this year.

I'm thinking maybe I should just have the money saved and see how it is in July?

We’re holding off for a few more days until we can check if insurance would cover us for cancellation if the area was locked down.

okiedokieme · 25/02/2020 11:54

Meant to be going to Shanghai so yes I'm not booking at the moment but wouldn't stop me otherwise

BlastEndedSkrewt · 25/02/2020 12:01

too late, my holiday is booked already & it includes my wedding abroad. Good idea to check my insurance cover I guess

MeepleMe · 25/02/2020 12:01

Yes we are waiting too. Was hoping for a week in Italy or Greece but I suspect will have to settle for camping in Cornwall once again.

tenlittlecygnets · 25/02/2020 12:03

Me. We've usually planned it by now but the news from Italy and Spain has made us think. We had planned an interrailing holiday, but this may not be the best year for that...

AngelsWithSilverWings · 25/02/2020 12:08

We're booked for Thailand for the Easter holidays. Just got to wait and see really.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/02/2020 12:09

I hope it doesn't tempt UK holiday providers for domestic breaks to ramp up their prices.

FakeFraudSquad · 25/02/2020 12:12

Yes, we’d been planning an Indian Ocean trip that required stopovers in Dubai.

Also hoping for other short breaks in Europe or the US but currently don’t have any travel plans due to Coronavirus.

If we had have booked we wouldn’t be going -we’d just have cancelled. We have lots of chronic health problems in the family, two of us are neutropenic, others have respiratory or cardiac problems.

We aren’t even planning to visit major uk cities or crowded events for the foreseeable. No arena concerts or Westfield trips etc.

TravellingWilberry · 25/02/2020 12:35

Booked to go to Malaysia at Easter- 26 cases of coronavirus there last time I looked.

No plans to cancel unless FCO or medical advice changes.

FloatingCloudz · 25/02/2020 12:40

Love how everyone is assuming that their main concern is whether their holiday location will be under quarantine. Have you thought that the UK might be under quarantine and they won’t let you in?

Hollyboba · 25/02/2020 12:45

That's my concern too Floating. Getting home again.

Just the whole situation is starting to worry me quite a bit.

We have changed our summer plans. Originally was planning to go to Hong Kong and Shanghai but not now. We were partially concerned initially because of the Hong Kong demonstrations but now Shanghai as well - plus we were planning to go to Disney in both and at least one is closed indefinitely, if not both.

But we will still book summer holidays soon - now looking at Canada and Hawaii. We've just been away for half term to the US and have a few days away booked in France at Easter.

We have annual travel insurance in place so if advice changes for any countries we book we will be covered.

I'm not going to avoid places without big issues though tbh. We have two new cases in the city I live in here in the UK anyway.

dancingbadger · 25/02/2020 12:54

Same here, we've usually booked our summer holiday by now but I'm holding off for a couple more weeks, we're also supposed to be going to Africa at Easter which is booked and paid for. I guess we'll just have to see what things are like nearer the time Confused

BelfastNonBlonde · 25/02/2020 12:56

No. I’m on holiday at the moment in. Abu Dhabi.

My mum is away on a cruise 😬

Strictly1972 · 25/02/2020 13:01

We are booked for California in May & France in August. Atm I’m still planning on going. We’ve got to pay the rest of the California trip end of next month so I’m hoping that we will know more then as I can’t afford for us to lose the money. I need to sort travel insurance that will cover it. I’m hoping the states will be relatively safe.

MrsT1405 · 25/02/2020 13:04

We've just done an annual trip cover as we've got a couple booked later in the year and thought we should get on with it.

UpToonGirl · 25/02/2020 13:05

Was planning a weekend break in Rome at the end of March but holding off booking to see how things are looking then. Would be starting to look for our summer family hols around now but again just waiting to see how things develop.

Mixitupalot · 25/02/2020 13:08

We’re not booking anything, I usually book well in advance for annual leave reasons. Seriously thinking about lock downs, my sister lives in Italy & they are being v v stringent there.

Strictly1972 · 25/02/2020 13:10

@MrsT1405 I was hoping to do this through my bank. In fact I’ll make it my job for this evening

hanahsaunt · 25/02/2020 13:18

We booked Italy (Lake Garda ... Veneto) last Monday. It is now in lock-down ... who knows how that will pan out but we don't travel for another six months. Thankfully we do have annual travel insurance and have only paid a deposit thus far.

MinesaPinot · 25/02/2020 13:34

We're cruising in a couple of months - not cancelling unless FCO tells us otherwise.

And we're going to Greece at the end of August. Again, no change unless we are told.

We've got annual travel insurance.

FeedMeChoc · 25/02/2020 13:40

No. We are booked into a villa. The biggest danger is the airport!
