Tonight I had a guardian angel helping me...

I have dyspraxia.. It manifests itself in many ways... Tonight when I needed help a lovely lady stepped up.
I got off a VERY bumpy flight from Vienna which didn't help my nerves... As we walked into the terminal I got chatting to a lovely lady and her daughter... As we got to the escalators I realised to my absolute horror that the only down one wasn't working! I started to panic and explained to the lady that I would find it difficult as the lines affect my balance and I would struggle. (I compare it to how you feel when you iron something with stripes)...
The lady immediately took charge. She explained she had vertigo so knew a little of how I felt. We walked VERY slowly down each step with my eyes firmly in front... She told me not to worry about the people behind us and we would get down in our own time... She stayed with me till I got through passport control... There truly are some lovely people out there.

She really was.. Totally unfazed by my panic.. Tucked her arm through mine and down we went.. ♥

Awh, how wonderful.

Little acts of kindness like this make the world go round.

Thanks for sharing, OP.

So lovely.

Today I have had a terrible day with my dh in hospital and I have had people be kind. it really meant a lot to me that they just stepped in and one went far beyond he needed too and has also saved us lots of money.

Elderflower14 · 21/02/2020 21:10

@SunshineCake... Hoping your husband is soon feeling better. Sending you a huge hug! ♥

That's very kind of her, but were there not ordinary stairs? Or a lift?

confusedandemployed · 21/02/2020 21:11

That's lovely. Some people are very kind.

Elderflower14 · 21/02/2020 21:14

@UnaCorda Not that I could see... I had lots of people behind me and didn't want to cause problems turning round..

twinnywinny14 · 21/02/2020 21:16

Not sur wig you listen to radio 2 but Sara Cox does a feature called ‘Sara awards’ to thank lovely people for what they have done- this would be a lovely one!

UnaCorda · 21/02/2020 21:18

Not that I could see... I had lots of people behind me and didn't want to cause problems turning round..

I may be wrong, but I think fire regulations dictate that there has to be an alternative to a lift/escalator. (Just in case this were to happen to you again!)

I agree it's quite a disconcerting experience walking up or down a stationary escalator, and I don't have dyspraxia or vertigo.

Branleuse · 21/02/2020 21:23

I hate stationary escalators too. I also have mild dyspraxia. Is it related then?

Elderflower14 · 21/02/2020 21:56

@Branleuse I believe so... Its the lines that make me go off balance... It is worse when the up escalator is working as you get that in your peripheral vision...

Bloodybridget · 21/02/2020 22:40

What a kind thing for her to do, glad you got help, OP. Interesting that a few people have said they hate walking down stationary escalators, I do too, makes me feel dizzy.

QueenoftheIceAge · 21/02/2020 23:01

What happens when you iron something with stripes?

SunshineCake · 21/02/2020 23:09

Thank you @Elderflower14.

Elderflower14 · 21/02/2020 23:51

@QueenoftheIceAge perhaps it's just me...
My eyes go squiffy when I iron stripes!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2020 00:03

I totally understand about escalators, but I've no idea about ironing stripes!Grin

I'm glad you found a lovely person.

I did a Guardian Angel a while ago - at Stratford Station, very busy .
I was heading through to Westfields , I saw an elderly , very frail man trying to reach his destination, but the crowds kept surging past , forcing him into the side .

I asked him which platform he was after and walked just ahead of him, not letting anyone barge him.
He kept saying "I don't want to make you late dear" but I got him there , on the train, to a seat .

Honestly if he'd fallen I think he'd have been trampled Sad

MrsJemimaDuck · 22/02/2020 00:08

How very kind. I’m so glad to hear this. Happy you’re OK.

JollyGiraffe12 · 22/02/2020 00:13

Lovely, thanks for sharing this it really cheered me up Smile

woooooo · 22/02/2020 00:30

There ARE lots of lovely people out there! I think in this digital age of social media and online news we are constantly exposed to so many negatives it's easy to forget that for every horror story you hear, there's 10 lovely stories we never get to hear about. Nice stories don't make the news, unfortunately.
I wish there was a news channel that just told us lovely news!

PixieDustt · 22/02/2020 00:38

Wha a lovely lady!
