Bread/crumpets etc suddenly smell/taste weird

This has been going on for a while, started with brown bread but now it's everything, including Warburtons crumpets which I love Sad It's like a sickly sweet smell/taste, really unpleasant. I'm definitely not pregnant btw, just wondered if anyone else had noticed anything? Suspect it's whatever preservatives they're currently using, think I am a bit over sensitive to some chemicals but would be nice to know it's not just me so I know I'm not going mad. Wtf am I going to have for breakfast now?!!

Do you use a bread bin?

Hidingtonothing · 21/02/2020 13:47

Nope, keep meaning to get one as bread just sits on the back of the worktop, crumpets live in a cupboard so it's not a storage issue. I can smell it the second I open the packaging so pretty sure it's there at source iyswim Hmm

Weirdly I had exactly the same with butter a few years back, had to keep changing brands til I found one that didn't have 'that smell', that was a sickly sweet smell too. Oh ffs, it's me isn't it 😱

Sinus issues can cause altered taste and smell.

I get this OP!

It started when I was pregnant with DD1 and never went away!

I would get yourself checked out at the drs , if this is becoming more regular it can be the symptom of a number of things including diabetes and epilepsy
