Mend my Dyson vacuum cleaner or buy new?

I've never much liked this vacuum but it's served me well I suppose until recently.

Took it to the repair shop, repair will cost £150. But it's an older machine with a powerful engine, pre Brussels guidelines. The engine is fine and doesn't need repairing.

If I bought new, no brand would be anything like as powerful as my current Dyson.

Wwyd?

TIA

I'd buy a Miele.

We contacted dyson when ours stopped working and they came and fixed it at home. Not sure how old the machine has to be for them to do that though.

I’d repair it because the idea of more plastic in to landfill is unenjoyable. If you have to get rid of it can you sell it online for parts?

If I decided to let it go it would go back to the shop who would probably resell it.

Ie the repair shop would take it and mend it and resell it.

Hi springy...
If you liked the vac I’d get the repair, but as you’re not keen I’d put the money towards a new one. I recently replaced an old high powered vac I didn’t like (Miele!)and thought the suction on the new one would be very indifferent. It wasn’t, it was fine. Plus the new one had more useful features. It’s a boring job to do so might as well get a tool you like using.

Replace with sebo or miele, depending on whether you have mostly carpets or hard floors. No need for the ultra powerful motor. That's just another bit of euro-hysteria.

springydaff · 21/02/2020 19:08

Which one did you buy trackr? How much?

Which one for carpets and which one for hard floors, Chew?

Thanks though. Id given up on this thread because I posted in the middle of the night and no traffic!

What about the hand held ones? There's a hand held vac on offer at lidl at the mo (also a kercher/k'a'rcher, same shape as a Henry).

What do you think?
