Spelling mistake on marriage certificate

I had to order a replacement marriage certificate as I lost the original (only for it to turn up the next day). Only to notice 15 years later that there's a spelling error on it, MIL's maiden name was spelled incorrectly, one letter missing.

I'm blaming DH as when I showed him he said that's how he thought it was spelled so he's definitely the culprit. And now I'm freaking out that we aren't legally married.
given my mood DH would be delighted

I phoned the Register office (we are in NI) and they told me to send the cert back with a cover letter explaining the mistake so it can be corrected....... But I have an anxious, catastrophic personality (whole other thread or 5) and this is really playing on my mind.

Can anyone help settle my nerves? In my rational head I KNOW a rogue letter shouldn't invalidate my marriage but that idea has planted itself now and I can't unthink it

It won't invalidate your marriage. We had s spelling error, noticed when I was updating documents, as one of my insurance providers sent the new documents to the wrongly spelled name. It was only then that I noticed!
We took it back to the vicar who amended it and initialled it. It hasn't been a problem since.

You’re legally married. They will correct the spelling error. It is all fine. Have a calming Wine, Brew, Cake or whatever and take a breath.

Thank you! Exactly what I needed to hear!

We had a whole word error. DH middle name is Terence, and they spelt it Terrance. We had it corrected but it was a faff and the registrar had to get permission for the records to be amended and then we went to the church to re sigh the register. All sorted now. We are still married.

The bitch who filled ours in put my mother's maiden name wrong. It's ridiculous. Without using our real names it says
Mothers name: Mary Brady
Formerly Bones. Known as Jones.
When it should have just said Jones. 🙄

She did it on purpose. I knew her and had had words with her a few years previously.

We do laugh at it now. It's funnier if you knew the actual name😂

Try the only surviving copy of your birth certificate having the wrong surname (English spelling, instead of the French spelling.) Its always fun explaining that away.😑 I'm sure the marriage is still all above board and all will be rectified.
