Are Hermes being ridiculous or am I missing something here?

I’ve just found this message on Hermes Parcel tracking app:

I’ve looked at tracking info which says the items appears to be a bit too big! Your parcel will be delivered by a specialist Hermes Courier due to its size. We’ll have it on its way to you within the next 48 hours.

The order is for the 2 wicker baskets in the picture. Am I missing something here? Or are Hermes being more bonkers than usual? The baskets are £10 each and are foldable. Unless they’re trying to delivery them in a matchbox car, they would surely fit in a standard car/van?

But the driver won't just have your parcels.

I know that but the message says my items appear to be too big and that they will need a specialist courier due to its size? It doesn’t seem to say their van was too full but that the items needed a specially big vehicle which I can’t make sense of.

It's not Hermes, it's whoever sent it. They've packaged it in a large box.

I bought 2 similar from asos. Came in a small box (1 stacked inside the other ith sides folded in)
Delivered by hermes.

could it be the way they are packed - I've had some crazy massive boxes on amazon because of the way things have been packed.
also our regular hermes man doesn't do the big boxes - he has a normal estate car and seems to mainly do clothes/large shoe box sized parcels and he's stuffed to the top. If he had to do a massive box it would limit what else he carries - so I can imagine that they give the big boxes to someone that uses a van rather than a car.

I ordered some candles which turned up in an enormous van. Ridiculous.

Btw, you can order these baskets from eBay for cheaper

I’m intrigued as to what they’re going to turn up in now . Oh heck I didn’t think of looking for them on eBay Shirley.
