So when I woke this morning I had a text from a number that I don't have saved in my contacts to say Happy birthday xx . It is my birthday message was a sent at 5am .
I replied later this morning to say thanks who is this ?. Message almost immediately to say guess .
I was a bit at this .
I don't give out my number and it's someone who knows when my birthday is .
So the only person I could think of was my dad who I'm nc with him and blocked him some time ago who may have another number . Dh said leave it mainly because my dad said some really nasty things last time and as it's my birthday I don't want to reply . Shall I just block and leave it?

Block it and leave it.

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2020 18:50

I'd not block. What if it's a friend who has changed their number? Wait to find out if they say who they are.

BadEyeBri · 18/02/2020 18:54

Ring the number but hide your number. You might find out if they answer or from the voicemail.

MsChatterbox · 18/02/2020 18:54

No I wouldn't block. I would make a guess and then decide what to do depending on what they reply next.

RuffleCrow · 18/02/2020 18:55

A friend wouldn't say "guess" - unless they're about 13!

StealthLemonade · 18/02/2020 18:56

Save the number and then open a message on whatsapp and see if they have a pic. Or get someone to ring the number.

gamerchick · 18/02/2020 18:58

Man I hate that word. I'd just ignore it tbh.

Crystal87 · 18/02/2020 19:01

I wouldn't block just yet. I'd probably text back " no idea" and then see what the reply is. If they won't say or carry on being silly then I'd block.

anotherbirthday · 18/02/2020 19:19

Checked not on WhatsApp so possibly my dad .
Can't be arsed with silly games so will go with block but may send messages to say so then block.

Yes it is a bit creepy. If it was me I'd want to know who though.

Straycatstrut · 18/02/2020 19:25

I'd say "Please just tell me who you are or I'll have to block this number"

Then you find out and decide to block or not.

They don't reply, you block.

anotherbirthday · 18/02/2020 19:30

I must admit I want to know now but I can't be doing with someone thinking it's a funny game .
I've messaged and said no idea so if you don't say I will block .

Could your dad have got your number?

"Everyone I give a shit about is stored in my contacts, so I'll leave you where I left you. Thanks for the heads up that I need a new number tho"

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 18/02/2020 19:40

Sometimes people link their phone number with Facebook. Could you always Facebook the number to see if any profiles pop up?

slipperywhensparticus · 18/02/2020 19:41

Yup that's creepy

bedtimeisthebesttime · 19/02/2020 04:58

My no dad would only message me on my birthday. Told him to stop as it was just upsetting he did and I never heard from him again.
