Leeds restaurant recommendation?

My DH and I are spending a day/night in Leeds later in the year. We'd like to have a really nice meal but don't know the city at all.

We don't really want a chain restaurant but otherwise open to all suggestions!

the corn exchange is a lovely place for during the day

Our favourite is Fazenda or the teppanyaki place

For a more cheap and cheerful meal, I love Little Tokyo (Japanese).

The Adelphi is a “proper” pub with lots of original Victorian features,!tiles, brasses etc..

The Royal Armouries is worth a visit if you are even vaguely interested in British history. You can get a water taxi thereby for £1 from Water Lane at the back of the station (facing the new golden entrance).

Foundry is excellent
Man behind the curtain is conceptually amazing but you go home hungry
Restaurant Bar and Grill is a chain but in fab surroundings ( the old post office)
Iberica Tapas chain but also fab premises
Swine That Dines .. bring your own that gets rave reviews..going next month and can’t wait
Ox Club.. just reopened..again gets rave reviews but I thought it was meh
Tiffin Room..fab Indian food
Stockdales..great steaks
Chaophyra v nice Thai food

Ones I wouldn’t bother with are :
Tattu..looks pretty but full of Instagramming poseurs
Any of the major chains
Bibis..once was an old Leeds stalwart but is now just all fur coat..

Another vote for the Brazilian restaurant Fazenda. I love it.

Some must dos are :
Download The Owl walk. The owl is the Leeds symbol and there are many owls dotted all over the city for you to find
City museum - free and interesting
Kirkgate market where M and S started
As others have said..the Corn exchange.
Walk through all the new and old arcades..they take you pretty much across town

Also remember to look up...Leeds architecture is fabulous

Oh and one last thing.. I know everyone will tell you to visits Leeds oldest pub Whitelocks down a quaint little alley...well yes it may be but it’s still mucky and stinks of old mans wee

Plenty to choose from, and lots of cool places and things to see. We use Leeds List for ideas.

Tharavadu

It is amazing. Absolutely gorgeous. If you ring them to book be sure to ask them to pre order you one of their whole crab thingies. It is divine and they understandably run out.

If you're going to the market, get lunch at a street food stall, Manjits kitchen is excellent if you like Indian vegetarian. Or Mr Mackerel, which is a traditional grilled meat skewer place, or humpit in the nearby corn exchange.

El Gato Negro for tapas, Franco Manco or Tapped for pizza and craft beer, and Bundobust for more Indian Street food, because once is never enough and you need about a week to scratch the surface.

Ah yes, can't forget the Teppanyaki! Staff there are lovely - Marianne especially :)
