How to deal with 1 year old tantrums?

DS has just turned 13 months and has started having strops when he doesn't get what he wants. Crying, gong stuff, throwing himself backwards and flapping his arms around.

I thought the tantrums started later on not this early!
How do people deal with them?

Same here, I didn't realise it all started so early. I am using distraction right now ie no you cannot have my hot cup of tea but here are your building blocks. Sense we'll need to change that soon enough.

I have an 18 month old. I either ignore him and let the tantrum run its course or try to distract him with something.

It depends really. I pick my battles / try to be careful about what I say no to. But if she kicks off unreasonably I make sure she’s safe and leave her to it. Without attention it soon peters out.
