Any experience of 'non-adjacent' Wimbledon seats?

Just that really, we've been offered two non-adjacent seats in the ballot, I'm loathe to turn them down but wondering whether it will still be a fun experience if we can't sit together. Has anyone had these and still had a good time?

DH and I had non adjacent seats a couple of years ago. They were fine - end of row, with 2 rows in between. Very easy to chat between games, get cups of tea etc. If you’re really into tennis, I don’t think it matters sitting “alone” because you wouldn’t be chatting during play anyway. I’d go for it

DebbieFiderer · 16/02/2020 17:19

How far forward/back were you? I've got a theory that the single seats are likely to be closer to the court as those rows are less uniform due to all the entrance gangways/aisles etc

We were about halfway back. No idea if your theory is right or not!

Well, halfway back would be way better than the last few times we've been - right back at the very top of the stands, where the sun never reaches 😂

We were allocated non adjacent seats last year and were really undecided whether to take them. When we got there the seats were a lot closer than they looked online, and more often than not there were empty seats infront/behind one of us, so the other person would sit in one of them until the people returned.
So all in all it wasnt as bad as I was expecting but I would definitely have preferred to have adjacbw seats. But I'm so glad we decided to go ahead

pointyshoes · 17/02/2020 08:01

Well if you’ve been before I’d definitely take them . For a first visit I think it’s nice to sit together but you’ve done that already . But I’m quite independent- not everyone is happy on their own . Fingers crossed for a sunny seat!

2020runner · 17/02/2020 08:06

I'd take them. I've got two seats together and have thought about your theory, I cant wait to find out where we're sitting but I have every feeling itll be at the back, I dont mind though for me it's a once in a lifetime thing (centre court mens semis). Obvs not a ince in a lifetime for you if you've been before but I'd take them

DebbieFiderer · 18/02/2020 17:56

We've got the men's quarters on centre, it's the most I've ever spent on tickets 😮 hopefully the seats will be worth it. We've actually been quite lucky in the ballot and gone about a dozen times in total, a combination of ballot and queuing.

I'm hoping for sunny but not too sunny - the people sitting in the lower stands facing the umpire (and the sun) always look so hot and uncomfortable when it's a sunny day, I'd much rather be on the other side and get some shade! The lowest/closest seats always go to the queue though.

Oh wow, lucky you, I am super jealous of those tickets! Absolutely go for it! You'll be watching the game mostly anyway.
I managed to get tickets in the ballot last year and am really hoping I get some this year, but as time goes on it seems unlikely Sad
Luckily there is so much tv coverage for the 2 weeks (which users of Mumsnet love to complain about Wink)

Starksforthewin · 18/02/2020 19:25

Men’s Quarters is an absolutely brilliant day to go OP! Do take the seats, as a PP said you shouldn’t speak during play anyway so sitting together doesn’t really matter.

We are very lucky as we have Debenture seats in the family and shared between us we usually go two or three times per year. I was on Centre for the Semi Final last year when Fed beat Nadal and it was magnificent.

Also, be careful what you wish for in terms of seats in the sun! On court temps last year got as high as 41-42 degrees, no fun for anyone. People watched for a couple of games then missed the next couple so they could get a break from the heat.

DebbieFiderer · 18/02/2020 19:55

Yeah, that's why the west stand is best, get the sun for a bit then the shade comes down.

And yes, no talking during points, but there's plenty of opportunities to pass comment in between points/games which we will miss out on by not sitting together - guess we will be texting a lot! We went for the men's quarters a few years ago when Federer had a shock loss - he was on the other court but I was listening to it on the radio and updating everyone around us!

Mens quarters is a fantastic day! I had a pair 17 years ago!

This year Ive got mens finals!! Non adjacent but whe I told my Dad he didnt care and was soooo excited!

Go for it. Youll spend the rest of the day together anyway.

2020runner · 21/02/2020 07:47

You've convinced me we'll he sitting way up high! I don't mind I'm just so excited to be going. My friend and I have been outfit planning already, I'd rather it was just warm and not too sunny. I burn so easily. I'm really hoping Federer will be there for the semis, in sure he will but I've got everything crossed

DebbieFiderer · 21/02/2020 08:11

When you get your tickets, check where your seats are, if you're in the upper tiers then take a jumper, it can chilly up there even on a hot day, if the weather is rubbish then it can be very cold. I had to go to the shop and buy a fleece and some socks (was wearing sandals) one year as I was so cold, and we weren't even very high up that year.

DebbieFiderer · 21/02/2020 08:15

Oh, and wear shoes you can walk in, there's a lot of walking to get around the grounds, and possibly lots of stairs to climb!

Play on the show courts doesn't start until 1/2pm but you can watch matches on the outside courts before that, even in the second week there will be doubles/juniors/legends, so good to get there early.

I could go on with giving loads of tips, but will stop for now, ask away if you have any questions!
