Children's meals- until what age?

Firstly, I know every child's appetite is different, and every restaurant/cafe is different.

DD1 is 8, approaching 9 years old. Yesterday, we had her first experience over a childrens meal not be fully sufficient for her appetite. I thought the portion size did look rather small compared to other places. But it got me thinking... What age would you expect a children's meal to last until?

(Lastly... I know there are other restaurants where a children's meal is more than enough for many adults! Actually, DD sometimes eats more than me...)

Not a fan of children's menus. DD's generally used to choose a starter instead, or ask for a small adult meal, which most restaurants will now provide.

We were with friends in a Pain Quotidian last weekend, ordered a children's breakfast for the 12yo, it was enormous! Boiled egg, sourdough fingers, butter and jam, granola with blueberries and yogurt, full size pain au chocolat, apple or orange juice, hot chocolate. Just a tip for those of you who have hungry DCs - I think it cost about £6.50!

DS is 10 and currently kids meals are often too small, but adults too big. Some places where they have 3 courses or where portions are bigger, are still ok

It really depends.

Last time we went out for a lunchtime meal, two of my kids had children’s meals which was chicken nuggets and macaroni cheese. One didn’t fancy it and had a side order of dirty chips instead.

My 5yo ds usually has an extra side or starter with the children's meals, 7yo dd is perfectly satisfied with a standard children's portion. Ds is slightly taller than her already though and growing at a rate of knots 😂 we tend to get by by ordering a couple of starters for the table which he digs into whilst waiting for his children's meal.

We usually split an adults meal between 7&10 year old. I give them some of mine too as I rarely eat all of a restaurant sized portion. Better choice than the child's menu ( and usually cheaper than two children's meals!).

My DS often needs an adult meal already. He’s two. Blush
